Looking for advice please, as per the title, I'm looking for a Portugal marina for long term berthing (11metre), reasonable price, reasonable access to UK, so likely somewhere nearish to Lisbon or Faro.

Obviously will investigate any suggestions.

Thanks in advance!! :)

If you are planning on spending a lot of time on the boat in the marina, then without a doubt,Lagos. If you just want some where to park a boat then,Albuferia, a lot cheaper. Both v accessible for Faro.Cimate much better in the Algarve than Lisbon.

We have just taken an annual contract at Ayamonte. Similar size to your boat . Total including electric water and VAT € 3338.
Albufiera give a 15% discount for CA members , equal to about 5/6 years subs.

We overwintered in Albufeira 2018/2019. Discount also applies to RYA members. Nearest marina to Faro - about €35 by taxi, €18 by mini bus. There is a marina in Olhao, but as far as I know it is full and has a long waiting list, at least for our size yacht.
We liked Albufeira, friendly staff, very sheltered, a small liveaboard community, not too far to the shops (one small Spar on site). Lots of bars and restaurants right on the marina. Some close in the Winter, but enough are open. If you have a car, the car park (underground) was 1€ per day for berthholders, and is secure. Good laundry facilities, showers reasonable.

Albufeira reputed to be the cheapest and is the best sheltered marina, most people opt for the 9 month contract to avoid high season and sail along to Spain for a few days at the end of June to avoid paying cruising tax . Even cheaper (if not looking for residence) is Ayamonte, just over the river in Spain, with choice of flying to Faro or Seville. Another option is to dry sail out of Bruce's yard at Faro but cost is similar to marinas.

I'm planning on next winter in Algarve. First choice for me, at the moment, is Vila Real de St Antonio. Good price, train to Faro, easy access to Spain and foul weather retreat up the Guadiana. Whilst not the most beautiful town on the Algarve it is functional and friendly. The marina can be a pig to enter in a southerly on the flood but I'm not looking to day sail. Second choices are Alcaidesa or Cartagena but I'm hoping to get a Portuguese residence permit.

Ive only ever pit stopped in the Algarve marinas. I would say my favourite is Albufuera.

Nobody has mentioned Vilamora. Too big? Always had a great run ashore there but Mebbe too commercial for some. How about Portimao? I liked the small town. Big beach, yadda yadda.

The only one that's a bit iffy for me is Vila Real. Tide honks through it. Pick your moment and its tight but ok. However think about everyone else using the marina when you're not there. Seen some horror shows.

Good luck with your selection!

Most places are worth a day or two visit but annual berth is different. Vilamoura? just not typical Portugal in some ways. I wouldn't be looking for contract in Vila Real due to exposure to weather and tide, quite a lot of boats damaged by others. Portimao north basin exposed to swell and bad weather as well, south basin more sheltered but too close to noisy stage in summer with all night head banging music. Although Albufeira not too many miles from Lagos, (my first and second choices) it enjoys better winter weather with less wind.

Looking at the prices, I'm happy with my mooring, it's saved me around €45,000 in the 14 years here.:)

I go with all of the above. It’s all down to what you want.

For me the biggest issue would centre around my intentions.

If I plan to ‘dormitory’ the boat, I would go for Albufeira.

If I plan to haul long-time, I would go for Bruce’s or Portimao.

If I plan to winter on board, I would pick Lagos. Lagos is the furthest from Faro airport but this is offset by a direct EVA bus service (€10) or the train (€7). Both the bus and railway station are very close to marina.

Because of safety considerations, I would not use Vila Real but go into Ayamonte, just across the river.
