I’m thinking of offering crewed day charter on my sailboat in the Algarve. Can anyone point me to the Portuguese equivalent of MGN 280 Small Vessels in Commercial Use for Sport or Pleasure, Workboats and Pilot Boats or similar. Looking for information on areas of operation and safety equipment required. Thx

Well before Brexit, a guy with a UK reg coded Trader mobo and commercial Yachtmaster tried to operate skippered charters from Faro and was refused permission. Another guy with UK reg sailboat runs some RYA courses but under the radar. His advertising is only in the UK and he arrives on board with his "friends" and they all go sailing for the week. Only a matter of time before the locals catch on and shop him.

Would this happen to be a chap whose wife runs a chandlery just across the border in Spain? If so, his boat appears to have now moved from the marina on the Portuguese side of the border

No, Faro Sailing School packed up, they split up and Laurie owns and runs Ayamar chandlery in Ayamonte. Nice lady and good service, has weekly deliveries along the Algarve.

The guy who does RYA courses hasn't been around for a while, his boat has been laid up in Bruce's since start of Covid.

That's the one - Laurie is truly wonderful: I spent 10 minutes trying to tell her in broken Spanish, and then in even broken-er Portuguese that I dont speak the lingo, before she let me off the hook and started to speak English. A very, very good chandlery to boot
