Port Corinth

Plainning to go through the canal on weds not don't this for about 12 years , as anyone lately stop in the harbour west side of Corinth, port Corinth or in the little harbour opposite it on the north bank Loutraki .
Is there any transport from Loutraki to Athens , friends need to get back to the airport .
Any info what the harbour are like .

Bob do you know what he score is with transport to Athen from there , our friends have to catch a mid day flight , and I rather not have then sitting at the airport all night .

I was doing some research on this early in the year and from what I could understand the Athens commuter train service extends out as far as Korinthos/Loutraki. I didn’t use it so I can’t 100% vouch for it. When passing by by car I had a look at the yacht/fishing harbour in Korinthos and it’s very rundown and disorganised. I didn’t fancy dropping an anchor there and decided to give it a miss.

Yes the train from Corinth runs every half hour , the plain was to go through on the last day then just moor for them to catch the train but with the wind coming we need to get there well before in case we can't moor .

No help with your trains, Vic, but if you have the time, the NE corner of the Gulf of Corinth (Kolpos Alkionidhon) is a wonderful area: unspoilt, very few boats, glorious scenery. Perhaps best avoided until the weather calms down, since there are violent gusts off the mountains to the N, but well worth exploring.

Thanks Mac , it's been some years since we been down here and only going through because of flights for friends and then co skipper has a flight some days later in the Ionian, other wise it be as always going south around the bottom ..
We going through to morrow to give us a two days of options , worst come to the worst we go up the gulf to Galaxidi and hire a car .
Just seen port Corinth with its train would be very handy

We spent a night in Galaxidi in April. Absolutely beautiful place. We left early morning to get through the canal and we were escorted by dolphins for a good bit of the way. Wonderful experience.

There's quite a large town, so I would expect bus to Corinth or Taxi.
And more importantly it's well protected and lots of space inner and outer port.
IMo the best place close to Corinth.

We managed to squeeze into the little harbour of Loutraki earlier this year, rafting up. It is deep enough at the entrance, but space is at a premium and it is rarely used by passing yachts. If the wind is between NW and E (clockwise) it is possible to anchor just outside, very close to the beach.

Like Rtboss1, I prefer Kiato harbour to Corinth. I was told that there is a direct train service from Kiato to Athens - that seems to be confirmed by Google.

We popped in to Corinth, in 2016 just after transiting the canal. It was quiet, only one other visiting yacht I think, quite a few local boats. There was space alongside one of the pontoons to stb on entry. Very central for downtown. Not unpleasant. Teenagers hanging around chatting late at night on the pontoons but no trouble. No-one there to collect any dues. Its a long beat up to Galaxidi from there if the wind is on the nose, suggest slip early morning if its going to build during the day.

We spent a night in Corinth in late August before transiting the canal the next day. The big outer harbour was empty and uninviting with very high quay walls. The inner harbour was OK, pontoons to starboard as you enter, mainly local boats. To port is a concrete quay which devides the fishing boats from the rest. We went alongside the concrete quay at the invitation of George, local fisherman come busybody. Helpful but will try to relieve you of a few euros for his help. He got us diesel in cans: good price and helpful service. Alongside the concrete quay the water is just over 2m deep so if you draw any more find space on the other side of the haven which is a metre or so deeper.
The haven should be well protected from the winds: the big outer harbour will break most of the swell and the inner harbour has a narrow entrance facing away from the prevailing winds.
No idea about public transport links but Corinth is a dormitory town and the train line to Athens is modern and electrified so there should be reasonable links to the city.

Thanks Duncan , we going through in the morning so we sums it out and decide want to do once in , they don't fly till Thursday's so we have a few days , but with the wind on the way I rather get settle some where , out wise we would had found a anchorage on the east side and let it pass before heading west .

We left Itea, not that different in distance from Galixidi, early morning in a good following breeze. This got us to the canal around midday, best time to do it with the sun shining down to the water.

Next time we did it at 0800, when it was cold and gloomy, nowhere near the great experience of the first trip.

I only passed Corinth canal once (S to N). I was there early (starting from Korfos) buy they keept us waiting till afternoon!

You can arrive any time as long as it's open , only problem the way your heading is your going to have to sit out side until they ready to let you through , if you lucky you may get there just as they've are doing that.
Last time we went through we came the other way , it was blowing but ok at are end but as we got to the other end there was nothing but white water , we had to wait nearly a hour from a ship to go through first , when we did get through there was a cat waiting , it didn't look very comfortable out there , god know how long he been waiting .
