About time we had some decent weather, did the favourite run to Chepstow this weekend and saw a porpoise on the way up, pic attached (hopefully)

I have heard of Dolphins/porpoises off Cardiff but never further east. Great to see them that far up. I saw one just west of Aberthaw but not any further up the channel. I thought they stopped where the water starts to look like chocolate milkshake.

I was talking to one of the fisherman afterwards and he said this pair are seen occasionally but haven't been for a while. We did comment that the water was slightly less brown than usual, may be it was because it was almost slack water - well as slack as it gets up here

A long time back...probably 10 or more years?...one was filmed in the Avon right up by the cumberland bason in Bristol!...made the local tv news as well.
I have seen them off Magor peat ledges occasionaly when I have been fishing but only twice in 35 years of going there!
We get seals up as far as Blackrock too.......the bird spotters love them for some reason?......they go to see the lesser red backed mud wrestler or something, then spend all day filming Sammy seal!

Best spot for me was a Flamingo that escaped from Slimbridge way back in the 70's.....stood on the grey mud it stood out like a sore thumb!
Nice to see your porpoise though!

Didn't you know, porpoises love chocolate milkshake! :D

I took my three year-old granddaughter out on Saturday and without prompting, she described the water as "like chocolate" too.

I think the unusual "clarity" of the water may be because there is so much fresh water coming down the rivers at the moment. It's also causing the tidal stream to turn dead on high water instead of 20 minutes later.

Any chance of posting the video?
