Drained off the oil from the fender engine lower unit: Merc 5hp Two Stroke, and ShuggaBuckFit, sea water plus milkshake comes out.

I have removed the bearing cage and lower shaft. Not planning to take it apart more myself: that's my limit.

Plan is to plonk the cage and shaft down on an engineers bench, but does it come apart further / is it repairable, or does it need replacing?

Advice appreciated.

Arrrrgghh... :(

I would say that unless you can see any obvious wear/play in bearings or corrosion anywhere , just renew all seals , put it back together with fresh oil and then just keep an eye on it through the season.

Not 100% but in the black housing there will be some kind of clip holding the bearing and shaft to the alloy housing, once thats off use a hammer and block of wood against the shaft and knock it through the housing, or better still have it pressed off or use a long legged puller.

Renew both prop seals and replace the o ring on the housing, clean out the custard from the bottom of the leg.
