Looking for some advice please before I make contact with the company.
I had a new manufactured bathing platform decking supplied and fitted last week.
The finish is far from what I had expected and others have agreed it’s not up to standard.
I will contact them to give them the opportunity to sort it. But I think it all needs replacing.
I have half the invoice still to pay.
Can I withhold payment until I’m satisfied?
What if he suggests leaving as is and doesn’t want the full payment?

Not paying in full until you are satisfied is the entire point of split payments - so yes, you are entirely within your rights to withhold final payment until the work is done to spec.
Getting anyone to sort out someone else's mess is always going to be difficult and expensive, most won't touch it, so I'd avoid getting into that situation if you possibly can.

Depends on the small print .
If you signed a doc saying something like “ the goods remain the property of the Co until the full balance is paid “ then by withholding payment you might find one morning the BP missing .

Your first 1/2 was just a deposit not a part payment where by the second 1/2 is discretionary.

Post some pics of the job highlighting your issues for the forum of public opinion to judge .

I think you need to discuss what is to be done asap and before you release the money.

If they suggest leaving it and don’t want full payment and this doesn’t work for you, you should remind them that the contract was to complete the work.

So, email sent with photos pointing out the issues.
I haven’t signed anything but I would prefer to pay in full and have a quality job completed.
Their reply was they will come out this week and look at some of the issues raised. Not all!
I suppose it comes down to each others personal opinion of what’s exceptable.

Just bcs you haven’t signed anything doesn’t mean that you don’t have a contract. And, assuming you are in England or Wales and a consumer buying services from a business you will be protected by the Consumer Rights Act 2015, entitling you amongst other things to expect that the services are performed with reasonable (judged objectively) skill and care. Also many rights with regard to goods supplied.

That is a pretty manky job

Thx for the pics .
It’s not great and I can see your pov .

The wood itself looks odd to me .I know there are different type of “ teak “ .This looks like one of the unfortunately many inferior types you see dock walking in marinas .

Did you get a description of the wood while obtaining quotes ?

Eg Burmese teak or East Africa , or something else - some other near like wood ?
