I am considering taking a swinging mooring at Lake Yard this year. Does anyone have any experience of the moorings? in particular is there a lot of swell in that part of the harbour, are the moorings far from the marina and how good is the water taxi?

This will be my first year at Lake Yard. Last year I was on a Stephenson mooring close by.
I'd say the Lake Yard ones would be less swelly (new word?) although it still wasn't swelly where we wewre last year.
The reason we moved to Lake Yard was primarily the water taxi service, it's free at weekends and you get six free goes per season for week days, any more than that you have to pay. When you ask "how good is the water taxi?", if you mean the service, I've had cause to use it a couple of times already and it seems to be reliable with friendly and helpful people running it. It's quite a substantial launch about 20 foot long, GRP with seats and a bit of shelter. They are quite happy to tow your tender out if you so wish.

Popular moorings, particularly as there is car parking. Bit exposed to the prevailing wind, but no more than most in the harbour. Bit of a trek to the harbour entrance.
