Politicians, How do you rate them?

I for one don’t rate ANY of them at all. To me they are all low lives, out for their own gain; they are more interested in party politics than you or me. The only time they deem it right to mix with us wealth generators and voters is when an election is imminent at which point they creep out of the woodwork and appear on your doorstep (normally just has you have a forkful of food heading for your mouth) and will promise each and everyone of us what ever we want in exchange for a cross on a piece of paper. If they are successful in gaining the most crosses they can safely go back to ignoring you for the next 4 years, safe in the knowledge that they can put their noses in the trough, get rich at our expense, pass laws that say that us voters must allow pikeys, illegals and criminals free range even though not one single member of those groups ever voted for them for fear of being “identified”.

I back my argument up with the various polls that place politicions at the top of us voter’s lists of the most disrespected and hated members of society!

And what’s even worse is that as the next general election approaches the TV will be full of all these bar stewards telling me how well off I am under the current lot and how well off I could be under a new lot!

Is there any chance that we could get written into our laws that there is a minimum of 1 day a year when “hunting MP’s is legal”

Last question in this rant.
“Why will they not allow a box on the voting form which says none of the above”?

So what would life be like ?

If we didn't have them to moan at .... then what would self-respecting person do ????

Risking all - I declare that I grade my dislike of Politicians .... Anti - EU - most likely to get my vote and less disliked ... but only just !
Pro - EU ..... the most detested low downs of them all ....

To be honest - when it comes down to it - don't really like 'em at all !!! Especially when they stand up with inane smiles on their faces and constantly evade answering direct questions ...

[/ QUOTE ]I'd vote for that!

I'd start with mine, a sycophantic yesman, and king of the expenses trough, claiming for a flat in Westminster even though his contituancy is barely an hour away by public transport.

I still like the system of a city state in ancient Greece: The citizens
elected one of their number as absolute dictator for 5 years. He wasn't allowed to refuse. At the end of the 5 years they had another election to decide if he had done a good job. If so, he was richly rewardedan dlived out his life in comfort. If not there was another retirement plan, of shorter duration and a lot more economical...

TB etc you lost by a short head. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Can we replace the Fox ??

With Fox hunting banned etc. - we need a replacement job for all the hounds and workers / huntsman / huntswoman ..... We simply allow Hunting again - but this time the prey is MP's .... especially on THEIR estates !!!

In my view:

Those that can do.
Those that can't teach.
If you can't even do that become a librarian.
Finally, if you can't even do that become a politician!

Look at them as if you were interviewing them for a job - none of them impress me with immediate presence and do not inspire confidence. The all seem to resemble the presenters of QVC or Drop Dead TV.

It would be nice but it isn't necessary. Write 'None of the above' across your ballot paper.

At the count the numbers of spoiled papers is declared and a figure should be available nationally from all the centres.

I reckon that the treasury people should all be forced to invest all their money in the national budget during their time of office, then at the end of their time they should be able to take back their money less the losses or plus the gains from the national budget during their period of office.

I'd abolish all politicians. Instead I'd co-opt people to sit in Parliament in much the same way as we're selected for jury duty. Everyone selected has to serve for three months (job preserved with an absolute right to return to it at the end of your term etc. etc.). No parties, no government and oppostition, just a bunch of ordinary people deciding amongst themselves what the country needs. That's a wee bit closer to real democracy rather than the elected autocracy we have now. And......and here's the clincher.......no more party political boadcasts!

Suggest you look up meaning of democracy in the dictionary.

Who is going to co-opt whom and why?

I served on a jury once - it was a terrifying experience, and personally I would rather be tried by one judge with vast experience and education than by twelve (or fifteen) good men and true selected at random from my peers.

Our democratic system is still one of the best in the world, and if it is failing the people of this country then that is a comment on current social and moral values rather than on any particular party or set of politicians.

This government are actually doing a reasonable job in the circumstances IMHO . . . of course, just social policies and economic stability in difficult times don't come cheap, so some of us have to pay some tax. Generally most boat owners pay more than most whippet owners or immigrant workers.

Tough. If you don't like it either stand for parliament, campaign for someone else or at least vote - or you can leave the country.

The Aussies are right about one thing - whinging is an unnatractive trait . . .

I agree with webcraft in practically everything he said. Except that I did jury service and (apart from the way the court system treats jurors!) found it interesting and heartening. Almost all the people on the two juries I was on took the issues and cases extremely seriously and were very committed to finding just and legal and agreed upon verdicts. Sometimes when I get more depressed about the attitudes I see so often (whinging for instance) I cheer myself up by recalling some of those fellor jurors.

But having a figure available doesn't mean anything. I would suggest a "none of the above" box; if that box gets the highest vote then all the candidates should be rejected and a fresh election held. It won't happen, but wouldn't it sharpen things up!

Unfortunately, they probably will anyway.

Come back Maggie Thatcher.

The only prime minister we ever had that had any balls.

We used to pay our tax a year behind, now it`s a year in front, what has he done with all that money

It`s scary

Interesting prog on tv the other night, contrasting the abilities of Blair and Maggie.

Consensus seemed to be that Maggie wouldn't have gone into Iraq based on evidence provided, as she'd have been up all night reading the briefing documents, then asking cutting questions, and god help the person who didn't know the answers. Blair has the intellect to read the documents, but doesn't do the background research, and doesn't do the aggresive questioning to find out the truth behind the briefing documents.

Maggie had many flaws, but she was the epitomy of what a PM should be.

D'ya know, I just love a bit of a rant, and I would like to add to this one...but...

Your rant is so excellent / bullet-proof / succinct / exact / to-the-point...that I'm stuck for extras.

And if I were to kick-off, I would be here all day /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
