On Moose's debate, I declared my preference for a Moody being a current owner and planning to upgrade to a bigger/newer boat in a couple of years time.
However, yesterday afternoon I had to move our beloved vessel from Hythe Marina to Moody's yard up the Hamble. We've been having some engine problems, which are not relevant here, so Captain Jimi agreed to accompany us and to take us back to Hythe.
Well, our manky old donkey decided we were going nowhere under power, but Jimi and his able-seaman Fatipa were sailing around outside the marina in a F4 westerly waiting for us. I 'persuaded' the marina staff to tow us out into Southampton Water, from where we could sail all the way to Moody's with Jimi on standby to park us on to the pontoon at the other end.
Well it just wasn't our day - once we were clear of the marina lock the wind dropped to 2knots gusting to 4 !! So good old Glen Rosa came to the rescue, we rafted the two boats together and motored all the way to Moody's. Even without our engine, at least we had some control of the raft with our very reliable rudder ! Once securely alongside, there was time for a pint before a pleasant motor/sail back again.
The Benneteau did a fine job as a tug and the Yanmar had no problem propelling both boats, even against the Hamble ebb - although we had a couple of problems with fenders when in the wash of IOW ferries. We proved you can only 'tow' like this in calm waters, as if we didn't know already.
So its a sincere THANK YOU to Jimi and Brian.
Just can't wait to get Moondance back, now !!
