Plywood small yacht

My current nesting dinghy made in glass and foam core is 30 years old. It's my daily drive and has done thousands of hours. It needs little maintenance considering it gets a very hard life. Ply just doesn't compare for resilience or life expectancy. The cored dinghy is lighter as well. My dinghy isn't something that gets pulled out of the garage every few weeks in the summer for a sail. It's used several, times a day with a 15hp engine. Dragged up beaches, knocked in to docks and generally abused. How many dinghies made of ply could survive this life?

I had a home-made ply dinghy years ago ... excellent dinghy .... here seen astern of my Alacrity (my oldest son James helming)

We all used to leave our dinghys upside down at Farlington Slipway .... in Langstone.

One weekend I went to slip to go out to the boat to find a number of people around our dinghys. Police arrived and we showed them the dinghys.

Some one had decided to drop big rocks from the slipway wall down onto the upturned dinghys ... smashing holes in them.

Police said they had a good idea who was responsible - but without actual proof - nothing they could do.

I had a Yachting World 'People's Boat' built of plywood.

An attractive little cruiser that sailed well, and was easy to maintain.

The thing is not to let water collect anywhere and cause rot. But even then, renewing sections of plywood is not difficult for anyone who s reasonably handy.
