Please can anybody identify this hydraulic pump. I have no info regarding this with no labels.

The problem I have is it makes a loud clickiing noise when the autopilot turns to port (Ratheon). It makes the normal noise when turning to starboard. This has only recently happend in heavy weather from Phuket to Langkawi. I would like to know if this is a simple job to strip and repair or does it need to be sent back to the manufacturer with specialised non standard parts. I am loath to touch it or let anyone else open it and mess it up completly

I would also like to know what oil it uses as the resevoir is just above minimum the only thing written on the pump is type 3

Many Thanks

if it was me I'd have stuck the sticker on the flat bit underneath, have you unscrewed and looked there?

can you see the picture

When I posted this I thought the picture would be visible but looking again i see its is an attachment with no views which means no one has seen that pump to advise me what the make and type is. Is this normal or should the thread automatically show the picture.

I am getting a little desperate to find out what this pump is and to at least read up about it on forums

Thanks

The clicking noise could be an over pressure valve unloading because there is more friction when it turns the rudder one way rather than the other. If it was a physical prob with the pump then it would make noises going either way. The pump, I am pretty certain, only turns one way, the direction of the flow is what is controlled. I would look at the other pats of the steering system first, disconnect the ram and try pushing the rudder both ways to see if there is any difference.

PS
Normally 10w hydaulic oil, you will see the majority of hydraulic oils marked 32 to suit this viscosity. Like this Ive just bought for mine http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....164850&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_1413wt_938

I looked at the picture and it looks like the one in the manual for the Raymarine product I mentioned.
Cheers
