A year ago I bought a Plastimo Neptune hob & grill. It has worked fine until recently when, after using the grill, all burner knobs are found to be very stiff to turn. Is this a common fault and is there any simple cure?.
It sounds like corrosion from salt air and dissimilar metals. You need to figure out how the shaft comes out of the valve and pull it all apart. Clean surfaces with fine sand paper and coat with a lioght oil.
You may be able to squirt some penetrating WD into the area where the shaft rotates and hopefully work it in to relieve the friction. olewill
My folks have experienced exactly the same problem with their Plastimo cooker that was fitted last winter. It has just been removed from the boat and will be returned as the knobs became completly stuck after using the oven/grill. Sounds like a common fault to me?
The valve knobs get stiff if the grill is used without a deflector plate which slides into a small slit above the oven.
I have just reassembled a set of valves from a Plastimo Atlantic and it is possible to free them up, but it means taking them off the gas distribution manifold.
Take the manifold clamp off, then the valve gate held on by small phillips screws (2). Don't lose the spring which will try to escape.
The cone can be pushed out from the back (burner) end.
If the cone, which is only about 10mm long, is badly pitted it can be lapped back with grinding paste. I got away with a clean up and lubrication with silicone grease. Don't overdo it or the gas vents will be blocked.
The oven valve is easier... its brass rather than ali.
Reassemble in reverse.
