Thinking of buying one of these but wonder about the card colours. There is a choice of black on yellow, white on red and white on black, with the first two using white lighting and the last, red. Any comments about the visibility of these? Given that 99% of my sailing is in greyish daylight with occasional sunny spells if I'm lucky then I though white on black would be best... any thoughts?

For nightime use, red light is much better.

Ordinarily I would agree, but I have just bought a Contest 101 from the for sale forum with the red card (white light). At first I was a little shocked as I prefer red light, but this is a very dim light which illuminates the card without stray light.

Granted, so far I have only powered it up on my dining room table, but so far the results look good. Should it prove a problem I can easily add a red sleeve to the bulb. The red card is very nice to read too.

It is going to be personal opinion at the end of the day.

If you use a red bulb, the white numbers will be <font color="red"> </font> red <font color="red"> </font> and the background will also be <font color="red"> </font> red <font color="red"> </font> ..... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
