Plastimo Atlantic Cooker plea for help!

During a cruise last weekend, we discovered that the oven on my venerable Plastimo Atlantic cooker wouldn't work (this when it was urgently required to warm some Naan Bread!). The control knob for the oven won't push in to allow it to rotate. It feels completely solid; not merely "tight" but locked solid. I don't really fancy having to buy a new cooker - anyone got any ideas what to look at? The rest of the web doesn't seem to be much help this time.

Thanks

Paul

Probably corrosion through lack of use. WD40 might help. It worked on one of the knobs on my cooker with the same problem. Otherwise you should be able to get a new Knob. Try Calor Gas in Southampton as they keep a good range of spares.

Plastimo Atlantic cookers are actually made (for Plastimo) by Leisure Products Bolton Ltd phone 01204 308458.
This small company is extremely helpful. They will assist in over the phone diagnosis and if they have the spares they will provide them at a much better price than Calor Gas or any chandlery that may claim to provide spares. Over the years I have had replacement control valves, grill parts and burner parts.
Anyone with a Plastimo Cooker should take note of this info!
If they have a spare valve which you seem to need, replacing it is very easy.
Good luck.

That's the sort of incredibly useful information that I will not be able to find when I need it - but now I will know that I don't know it !

I almost wish you hadn't mentioned it!

That's very useful to know. The Atlantic cooker is a pretty old model, and I gather it is well out of production. When I consulted the chandlery, I said I thought it might be a bit of an antique, and they said something like "Of course it isn't" - until they looked it up, whereupon they agreed with me! I think it is original equipment on a 1989 boat.

Hi

I have a Plastimo Neptune 2500 Cooker (with oven) that went down with the ship.
I have brought a replacement.
Some of the controls are o.k.
You would be welcome to salvage anything that may help from it.

PM your contact details if you are interested.

One of the burners on our old Atlantic has suddenly got occasional problems, can't turn the knob, then later it will free up.
Asked at the Calor stand at SIBS, chap on there said there was a known problem with the valves on these, a large batch was affected originally. Suggested a new valve.

I second SimonJ's comments about Leisure Products. Extremely helpful and can usually supply spares by return. Be careful to specify exactly what you wnat though as design has evolved over time

Following up the point about design evolution... I have one of these, and at the time I bought the boat the surveyor was pretty sniffy about the fact that (other than the oven) the burners had no flame failure device. Do you know whether it would be possible (or economically viable) to buy spares to add flame failure to what is obviously an older design?
