Is it possible to service the bearings on a 406s furler? I can find parts online but no information on servicing. Any help gratefully received!

Do you mean the bottom bearings or the top? At the top is a small plain plastic (Delrin?) bearing sleeve:
https://www.oceanchandlery.com/plastimo-accessories-for-single-groove-reefing-systems.html
there is another at the connection between the foil and the drum, then there is a Delrin ball bearing in the drum.

Plastimo say the system can be assembled and fitted without removing the mast so, in theory, you could take it all apart just by reversing assembly. The only on-line copy of the assembly instructions I can find:
https://www.plastimo.com/media/catalog/product/files/5/8/58224_notice_enr_t.pdf
- is for the T-series (twin foresail groove) which doesn't seem to have the 2 plain plastic bearings, but the process is basically the same. Mr Dylan Winter did a great video on fitting a 406s - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Uj3wZaQS3Q - can you watch it backwards??!

Removing the balls from the drum is easy, just remove the four bolts holding the top and bottom of the drum together. Mind out for the balls going everywhere!

I have an old PDF of instructions on assembling the 406s, I could email it you if it helps?

John

Thanks John, I've had a look at the fitting instructions and Dylan's video, neither have any info on accessing the bearings. I'll take the Allen bolts out of the bottom and see what happens and try spraying some Teflon lubricant into the top fitting.
