Pirate weekend

Change of crew for my tub.
Will be in att for pirate weekend,
My boat Fantasy will be crewed by my "first mate" Nick.
Who fell of boat in a gust just of Osea last time he came out with me :D:D.
What upset him most was he ruined his mobile and camera. (salt water).
Nigelm, was coming but is having new carpet laid in frontroom.
Will set out from Millbeach 5am, will prob be up there in afternoon.

Apologies to all - the Kioni-ites will not make it to the pirate weekend, sorry!

It was 50:50 as I explained to CliveG with a lot of stuff on during the week workwise and a late night fete thing we were involved in last night in the village and to be honest we're just too pooped for a 230 mile trip today.

We send our best wishes and hope you all have a great time, the weather here in the West Country is gorgeous today I hope it is for all of you left-siders. We had a family discussion about it this morning and plan to get there in style next year when we hope to arrive under our own steam, so to speak.

Special thanks to CliveG for offering to pick us up from Titchmarsh (and even offered us berths) but I think Vreny are a more worthy cause :)

In theory Saguday left the US yesterday after a number of delays although I'm still awaiting confirmation. With luck we may be afloat again in August but I'm being cautious now as this boat shipping thing seems to be more complex and frustrating than I'd anticipated. Anyway we look forward to meeting up with everyone again when we do finally get back on the water.

Please take lots of pics! And some recordings of the jam session please, which I am disappointed to be missing :(

Cheers

Neil Molly Kieran and Luc

Thank you Morgana

Well no pics I'm afraid but we both really enjoyed Saturday. Great to see so many and put some more names to faces.

Shame the same cannot be said of today! I'm afraid Ben had to leave his breakfast in the Wallet as Vomit Alley claimed another victim. It had all been going so well. We left early on the 'foul' tide to get a smooth sea in the forecast SW 3 to 4 increasing 5 to 6. Well the 3 to 4 was fine but by the time we were off Clacton the now fair tide had kicked up a nasty chop in the 4 to 5 and despite 3 reefs in main & genoa I couldn't make it any more comfortable for him.

Within 15 minutes of arriving in Brightlingsea he was eating again!!

Lets hope he forgets all about it!

Hmmm, I feared it would be a bouncy trip for some, as I was running back eastwards along the M25 this afternoon with a good F6 up me bootlid!
Hope it all went well and that the return journey wasn't too grim. One of these years we'll make it over there...

Super weekend - thanks everybody.

We picked up Gordon's nearly-3-year-old grand-daughter at Levington, with her parents, and brought her over to the Pirates on Staurday. It was absolutely perfect. Mini-pirate loved it, parents loved it - we have some real converts there. We left with a happy but exhausted little girl at about 6.30 and she was fast asleep before Harwich, waking up 12 hours later to say "the boat has stopped moving" - we were in Levington overnight.

So then, sailing back... Actually, the Wallet was OK - we sailed (tacked) down to the Spitway, with FC passing us (motoring) just before we got there. It got rougher and windier in the Crouch, and although we carried on sailing comfortably, we realised how late we were, so the engine came on somewhere near Sunken Buxey (and quite close to Black Magic), and we followed Lisa all the way home.

Thank you everyone for what I personally think was the best pirate weekend yet!

Once again, the sun gods shone for us, and we were able to sit on the beach until late into the evening without resorting to jumpers and coats.

We had another huge turnout.... I didn't manage a count up, but I reckon there must have been 70 or so of us on the beach....... as ever, always fabulous company, and yet further proof that the ECF remains the premier section of the ybw forums, especially in the important category of social gatherings.

Now.... i've done 4 of 'em...

Who is going to pick up the mantle for organising Pirate 2011?

I agree. Fantastic weather, company, and food and the children had a ball. What more could one ask for. I even managed a mid-afternoon kip on the beach too - how good is that !!. Thanks to all, its the people that really make it. Really good to see Paul and Rosemary there too :D.

And .................. my shiny new anchor worked a treat.

I am happy to run with next year's planning - how does Saturday 2nd July 2011 sound ?

What a cracking weekend!

Weather? Perfect, my face and arms are a nice thermador colour.
Company? Brilliant - so many friends to chat with - kids all gainfully occupied and new friends made.
Location? Beautiful as ever.

Only outstanding question - how come I brought beer home?

Thanks to Morgana for the organising and everyone for the company. Sorry we had to leave early but work commitments for Holly meant we had to guarantee a Sunday RTB.

Top respect goes to James and crew for their good sport with the muddy shore battery!

Any pictures?

I am rather jealous. Whilst you pirates were hootnannying in the backwaters I was frying in St John's, Smith Square. The large west window was letting in inordinate amounts of sunshine on the backs of us basses. A sea breeze would have been definitely preferable.

I have been looking forward to seeing some pictures. Surely someone must have broken off from the partying to take some????

Many thanks to all.
Me and my crew mate nick had a nice time.
We departed 8am and were going well upto Walton pier.
Then the wind and waves picked up right on our nose.
We reefed in the genoa and ploughed on.
Had to put on engine at Clacton to help push us on through the swell.
Got back to Blackwater at 4pm ok.
As two novice yachtsmen we were well chuffed with ourselves that we got home in one piece.:D
Must admit our top lip were stuck to our teeth a few times :D
We now regard ourselves to have "bashed the wallet" crew.
Many thank for a nice weekend, will def be back next year....

As the Bopnfire dies down a little ......
