Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Just catching up on this ...had a squint on the xda earlier....

reading Gary's message that Alan had arrived sent soooooo many tingles up and down my spine....
stunning
amazing
outstanding
breathtaking
fantastic

and as my good friend Browett would say in a Lincolnshire accent.....
Bloody marvelous

As a mobo these things might sometimes be a little difficult to understand...I think I have some grasp on it...

Well done Alan.....a beer from me when we next meet...

Message from Alan...

"THE NEWS I HAVE JUST RECEIVED IS PERHAPS EVEN MORE SHOCKING THAT THE FACT I FINISHED. IT APPEARS I MAY HAVE FINISHED 9TH OUT OF 42 STARTERS.... DON'T ASK HOW, I HAVE NO IDEA!"

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Its me here chaps. Spent pretty much all of yesterday chatting and beering with fellow jesterers and slept log like last night. Boat jobs for a few days yet and another 15 or so to arrive still.

I am quite simply stunned by the interest and support that was relayed through Gary to me on the way, and clearly Gary cant be thanked enough for everything he has done.

It was a fantastic trip which got better and better as it progressed and to say I feel great, chuffed, fulfilled etc goes without saying. Flying back on Thursday then back out mid July to bring her back.

Once again, many many thanks to all. It was a great thing to do, made even greater knowing how much support was there. Many many thanks again to you all.

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Hi Alan - nice to hear from you direct. Bet that beer tasted good!

If you fancy a sail before mid-July just let me know. Bow Street Runners don't do pirate weekends I suppose /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Fantastic Alan, glad you raised loads for charity as well!!

The East Coasters seem to have put in a great showing, found out yesterday that a chap from Thorpe Bay Yacht Club also completed the challenge. Hope John is OK on Glayva.

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Just had an update from John on Glayva.

'Glayva arrived Terceira 0024 UTC Sunday. Around 5th of 42 starters.Glayva's
last 10 miles took 12 hrs. A gale 3 nights from end but only 3 metre seas.'

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Alan

Just come back from a mini holiday and am catching up on the news. I've been so gripped by your great adventure that I had to text Patrick and ask him to let me know when you got in. Very, very well done mate. A huge hug awaits you on your return. Might be a sloppy kiss in there for you too - from Bananaman, of course. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Really looking forward to meeting up with you soon and getting a blow by blow account of the trip.

Love and kisses

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

Fabulous stuff Al.
What a boy.
I see the time worn traditions of beer have not changed.
So how come that bit fell off and not the self steering like so many others?
(A tribute to your prep BTW)

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

You took those pics on the Oostende trip and just flew out there, didn't you ? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Brilliant effort Alan, well done, and a kiss from Louise when you lose the face fungus /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Pipedream\'s progress in the Jester Challenge

I had several problems with the mechanical self steering so gave up on it quickly and reverted to tiller pilots (mostly) and manual. I have no idea why the VHF aerial fell, can only think it was vibration or a bird. Thankfully it was a quick fix by a lightweight ex-climber Paul Mead (Indecision) who climbed up with me and Paul Feasey (Stingray) holding on to the other end of the string. Great chaps.
