Pipe To DIY refill calor gas butane bottle

You can't even work out what pipe to use, are you sure you can work out what weight of gas to put in the bottle correctly? A potential liability to yourself and others around you.

Surely you want the Butane to Butane version.

I have a Propane to Propane one, 1 metre long, which allows me to homefill my 3.9Kilo from a 13 Kilo one.
I read 'propane/butane' as 'propane or butane'. But yeah I see what you mean. I'll need to find out. I'll email them and ask. Thanks

You're right I'm not sure. Hence the question!
I think weight should be straightforward enough. It takes 4.5kg of gas so will put in 4kg to be on the safe side.

For a 15kg donor bottle you need a 21mm clip on unregulated fitting one end and 21.8mm lh nut other end, empty bottle weight is on the collar in lb oz format, spring balance or scales beats electronic as they time out part way, put Recipient bottle in the freezer first and warm donor bottle to make it lots quicker.

Your donor cylinder will probably have a 21mm push on connection.
You will, therefore, need a push on adapter for that ( eg Gas Boat 4014) or an adapter for what ever fitting your donor cylinder has

Then a hose with a W20 nut at the donor end and a Butane nut at the other** , or with another W20 nut at the other end ( eg GasBoat 4017) followed by a M20 to butane nut adapter (Gas Boat 4012) to fit the Calor 4.5kg cylinder

Other combination are possible

See WHayward Marine Gas Systems | GasBoat | Go anywhere Gas Regulatos for the GasBoat fittings

**The hose you illustrate is correct not what you seem to describe with a POL propane connector.

The fitting for your 4.5kg cylinder is usually described as a "butane nut". It has an odd sized left hand thread.

Please double check all the above numbers etc

Probably not required during winter - just have one bottle outside in the cold and one in the house at room temp for a few hours before transfer.

Probably best done at the end of the garden

American bottles have a small screw to release the pressure of gas and allow more LPG liquid in. U.K. bottles don't. I refill mine but have never managed to get more than 3.5 kg into a 4.5kg bottle. That suits me as I have a couple of spares ready for use. As some one said best outside as when you shut both vulves the liquid in the hose has to boil off when you undo every thing, therefore it makes a hissing and bubbling noise for two -three seconds. Simple process. The donor bottle needs to be upside down

I give the receiving bottle a shake and sometimes the donor one to remove the 'blockage' in the hose. As the liquid leaves the donor bottle into the receiving one, the receiving one needs to get rid of the displaced gas. The hose is only a small diameter and it doesn't take much for the pressures to become unbalanced stopping the flow of liquid, etc.

Donor bottle and the recipient both have the same fitting. Not sure what you call it. A female threaded standard calor gas one! Thanks
I missed this earlier

The small cylinder will have a male 21.8mm LH thread ( The so called "butane nut" fits this.)

Modern larger Calor butane cylinders have the 21mm push on fitting. If yours has the above thread then the GasBoat 4017 hose and 2x GasBoat 4012 adapters will do the trick, but next time you change your donor cylinder it will have the push on connector if it is a Calor one.
