We used to sail out of Maldon in the 50's. Still several barges there. Looking a bit tatty and passee.
At least a few are kept in good condition, but it was unrealistic to preserve most of them.

I do remember being warned not to fall into the big 'wallows' they left in the mud... You will never be seen again...
