I don't agree about the flybridge on the Azimut being better - we liked the flexibility on the Princess flybridge so that you can choose between a sunpad or seating. I guess it's all down to what you want to do, and how many people you're typically going to have on board. Isn't the Azimut loads more money than the Princess?

The only fault I could find with the Princess was a (relative) lack of headroom in the heads - there seemed to be less than in my T37. But I think I could live with it!

Cheers
Jimmy

Many Congrats.

I hope you enjoy your boat as much as I still enjoy my Princess. I agree with you about 'next boat'. We keep looking at the options but actually still like ours and I also concur on the size issue. But nevertheless sometime feel a bit of a tyre kicker..... The issue is I feel as a boat owner you are already there; and I guess it is a salemans risk to ignore your potential next trade.

i hope Swanwick look after you as they did with us. We had zero quality issues really as the small bits and pieces were dealt with as expected and very timely too. Certainly none of the issues Magnum appears to have faced

Henry,

Despite what is written above (major thread drift) I still think that the P42 is the nicest boat in the class IMHO.

Just make sure she is problem free before you make that final payment.

All the best for the weekend.

Agreed. Our P42 was a fab boat, once the issues were sorted, and we had many a happy day on her. Enjoy her /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Lovely boat, the Princess 42 - as others have said, the current best in class. Did you p/x your Phantom 42?

I had a sensible trade bid for the boat but have decided to sell it once we`ve picked up the new boat (Princess are happy to help out). I don`t think we`re going retire on the difference it makes but we didn`t have to sell it to buy the new one and every little helps !

My tip for SIPS : Pat down the missus before you go, take away any cash, credit cards, cheque books or promissory notes. Place 2 crisp £5 notes in her handbag to cover emergencies and to ensure she can buy you a couple of pints. Then make sure you keep your hands in your pockets at all times and don`t look any of the sales staff directly in the eyes. They have special powers you know!

Sheesh Magnum, I knew there were probs with p67 but hadn't realised the list was that long and deep.

What boat sellers/builders seem to forget is that we're busy. At least, folks who can buy £1m of boat often have other stuff going on in their lives. So it aint a cost issue, it's a burning up of time issue that is the real bummer with snag lists.

FWIW Fairline have since 3i and management bought them taken very concerted steps to reduce snags and the assoc warranty cost. I have various inside info that I don't want put on here but they have indeed reduced warranty cost per boat shipped.

SV, ref your cabin lights you must have a duff voltage reg

Batteries (on a 24v system, halve all my numbers for a 12v system) are 24v approx when not charging but 28.8v when charging (ie engines running, or shorepower/gen. That's too big a range for lamp bulbs. The halogen lamp manufacturers therefore make them in 24v and 28v ratings. If you fit 28v bulbs, they wont blow but they look dim when running just on batteries. If you fit 24v bulbs they look fine on battery power but blow quickly when the batteries are on charge

To cure this dilemma Fairline started fitting a voltage regulator for all the lights. This takes an input from the batteries and whether that's 28.8 or 24v the output is a clean 24v. Then they fit 24 bulbs and hey presto all your problems are soved

Your boat should have one of these regulators (at least ours does - I can't believe Fairline would cut it from the spec of the p50, but maybe you need to check....). but they can be faulty, and ours was (from new) and was changed under warranty. Our symptom was same as yours - lamps blew frequently, so it took a while to diagnose. Since we got the new voltage reg fitted, the bulbs have stopped blowing.

So I reckon yours is faulty, and you should get another, or get one fitted if you dont have one

On our boat the part number is FL28316 and the retail price of it as a spare is £649. Though, frankly, lots of electrical firms will make a 24v voltage regulator with the right current rating so you can get one anywhere if you need to buy one. On our boat it is located behind the lining panel at the back of the port cabin wardrobe but I dunno where it is on the P50. It's a tin box tranformer thing, painted white with cooling fans, about the size of a shoe box

Hope this fixes your problem...

JFM,

If our experience is anything to go by, Fairline have made major improvements in the build quality.

Magnum, I'd suggest going for a new or very nearly new Fairline if you go that route. However, even our previous boats didn't have anything like the number of problems you had on your 67.

Well just to update : Hand over was fantastic, lovely bouquet of flowers waiting in the saloon, a very detailed technical walkthough by someone who knew every nut and bolt on the boat and spent as much time as I wanted (also have yet another card to contact if we have any problems - I must have cards for everyone who works in Princess now!). Invited us to take the boat out for a spin to make sure we were happy, never felt rushed and if I hear "if you have any problems at all just give me a call - you`ve got my mobile number" I`ll burst /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Stayed at the Hamble over the weekend whilst we watched the powerboat racing, again at the invitation of Princess. Am in Weymouth at the moment giving the old girl a bit of a run. A lovely boat to operater both close quarters (got a good test putting it into this spot) as well as on the plane. The 435 D6 engines pop it up on the plane very easily indeed.

Oh yes, and even got a dozen spare light bulbs in the owners pack !!

More details and photos as time permits. Off for dinner at Floods now !
