photography anyone?

Fair point - but charging for it becomes work, offering to take photos in exchange for some playing around on the water is fun /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

oh well - anyone who is interested will undoubtedly PM me, am up for enjoying it, charging sounds too much hard work - perhaps I am too laid back and should be pursuing my fortune, but hey, life is too short /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Are you keen enough to join the Scuttlebutt Cherbourg cruise in September?

Oppotunities to take part/photograph boats and possibly get elected official event photographer.

A number of boats normally have a spare berth.

Ahh but.....

Ah, but where in the "handbook of life" does it say that work shouldn't be fun? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think I must have missed that page!!

Alright I could do with out driving 20,000 miles a year, airport security and all the filing of images...but how does the fat face T shirt go?...Better a bad day on the water than a good day in the office /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Well, yes - I could be very keen /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
If someone was happy to offer a berth, I would be most interested...

I should also say that in case anyone is wondering - I do also sail /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif though my only boat at present is a 16 foot motor cruiser on the Thames /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I have my VHF SRC / DS and should be finishing the CS/YM theory this weekend! so I shouldn't be dead-weight...

Beware the Scuttlebutt Cherbourg Trip; your bar bills will make the costs of chartering a RIB look modest. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Huge fun, though.

That's okay, I only drink water /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

And there was me thinking you wanted an invite?

Re: I don\'t feel threatened

Your post highlights one of his major problems, the boat. I am a keep amateur and my pictures are never close to yours because I am on a yacht (nearly). Let us take away all the obvious bits, colour, sharpness, clarity.. My shots of other yachts and those on the webpage often posted here all look like snapshots. We just can't get in close, nothing I can take can compete with your shots of a crew on the rail taken as you whizz underneath them in the rib. Oh I can put a powerful lens on and try to handhold but then it just looks soft.

Unless you are prepared to get in among the boats and probably annoy the helms by darting back and forth I don't see how you can match a professional shoot on the water.

Just my thoughts..

Truth in this, but as all forumites only sail 50' plus yachts with garages and jet-ribs, shouldn't be a problem! I think that this is why I am offering the possibility (not guarantee /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) of some photos in swap for some messing around on water /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Having said that, this image isn't too bad (light was dreadful!)

This was taken from another yacht...

Hi if a photograher is annoying the helm they are not doing their job properly, we (photographers that is) are just observers, not participants...having said that I regularly try to annoy the helms because they are usually the journalist who writes the boat test!! I'm always shouting at them to stand up/sit down/ sail in this direction or that....but then again I can /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: I don\'t feel threatened

SWMBO loves action sailing pictures and now has a Canon EOS5 which she uses to great effect. Before that, she had a rubbishy Kodak digital which is now mine!

This photo of some Dutch friends also taken in very poor light with the old camera, but she expects me to get her up close and personal so she can get the shots she wants. This sometimes puts us rail to rail with the subject and can only be done if their helm is comfortable!

Re: I don\'t feel threatened

Which is why PhotoPirates go out and take pics in thier own boat and hope people will buy them I suppose , but that's just another option because they just hope , but the offer is to book him , so maybe two boats and owners could work together and take him out on one boat to take pics then swap to the other boat for reciprocal pics

Re: I don\'t feel threatened

quite true - which is one reason why photos aren't cheap - because of the costs of the photographer renting / owning a rib (as shown above), the suggestion above re. Cherbourg is the kind of thing which might work - anyway, off on my first jaunt with camera in July, so look out for the obligatory photo afterwards, and then guess who was brave enough to let me loose anywhere near their boat with a camera in hand /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
