I do wonder if people really do want to sell there boat or are they just wasting brokers time and effort on advertising it for them. I asked him was he aware of he market situation , he just said the price and that was it.

Ahhh! your the one who offered the poor owners 35% under the asking price. You caused a stir that day. Are you the marine mechanic from the solent that's pissed off every dealer just about everywhere offering only 50% of the asking price for boats you can only dream about? Not sure you'll get a thank you from any dealer or owner anytime soon. They have a funny nick name for you!

Everyone has their own method of negotiating, some start low, others start even lower. Some don't like to negotiate at all. Each to their own as long as the buyer and seller finally agree that's what the end result is all about.
Nothing wrong with trying to pick up a bargain.....

Some people just can't face reality, there's a reason these boat don't sell and that's because the sellers want more than they are worth and when there's something wrong they expect the buyer to foot the bill, if you are expected to buy and take your chances then the price has to allow for his.

Volvo engineer, I'm not from the Solent at all in fact I'm a lot nearer to where the said boat is than you may think.
If you work at the same yard as the said boat then you know me very well, you will also know I'm not a dreamer at all and have owned many boats.

It's a buyer market if your a cash buyer which I am, I know the market. I'm intrigued .

If you take a look at what this forum is all about you will see we all help eachother sharing our trade experience on here wether we are marine engineers, solicitors, bankers, IT experts etc.

I see this is your first post and a mud slinging one at that, if your have any input to this forum I suggest you come up with a bit better reply next time.

Negotiation is a two way exchange. If others placed higher cash offers, a vendor is free to accept or negotiate with any lower offer. Hardly a cause for offence, unlike what some may read from your post.

Not sure such a personal attack on an long established, well respected, knowledgeable and helpful forumite is completely justified. If a vendor doesn't like an offer he is at liberty to reject it, but for someone who is very familiar with a wide range of boats, clearly he is simply being careful to offer what he sees is a realistic price. Too many vendors simply don't see this, and many more think they are selling a boat in concours condition, when a sharp eyed would be buyer, who doesn't wear rose tinted specs, will soon see the truth of what he could be buying.

Perhaps you could review your comments, and perhaps make your criticisms in a more positive manner. Demeaning anyone in the manner shown here is not something I have seen before in my 18 months or so on here, and this forum is read and fed by by those with the widest range of means.

You say this is your last big boat, how many boats have you had? I bet you've had them all! I'm intrigued too! Sounds like your an old sea dog with thousands of intrepid sea miles under your belt. Most people just poodle around in the Medway or solent frightened to burn fuel. Good on yah!

Did you get my private message you must have if you have had others, so do you work at the same yard this boat is at? You know who I am so how about owning to who you are, you can do this via a pm.

Prices well, I don't want to say what boats are selling for until I've concluded my next deal but your 35% is about right. As there are friends on here I would rather tell first as they are interested in my next boat.

Solent / south coast yes , Medway? Your a long way off.

I wouldn't say my offer was an insult at all, based on what deals I can do on various boats it was a generous one considering its condition inside and out, its not moved for 2 years.

mmm... But if all boats are realistically priced in the first place then there would be no movement for a 35% reduction in the asking price so any potential owner would assume he is not getting such a good bargain.
BTW a P42 is still on the market in Berthon for nearly 2 years now - originally over priced and under specked imho - The owner would not budge initially and has since had this boat re-valued less 10% earlier this year but still no takers.
Problem is this boat has been around for so long that potential customers naturally assume that this bboat must have something wrong with it.

On another thread Henryf recently discussed this subject in greater detail so I won't bore you all with the same - :cool:

Maybe I've been missing the point. I assume you got a dealer value then took off 35% then aimed for that asking price which gave you the quick sale. So how long was it up for sale? assume 2 months or something? Or only weeks I bet? Obviously only a joker would have a boat on the market for 2 years or more. Anyway, what's the best big boat you've owed, you forgot to answer.
