I wonder if any one has the dimensions of a petter ac2w PLEASE
I need to know the width of the engine mountings re centre to centre also the height of the engine from the mountings and the length including gearbox
I cant get to my boat to check the sizes and I might have the chance of a replacement engine

cheers

Mick

There is a photocopied manual (with a dimensioned drawing) of the engine on this website.

http://www.eygthene24.com/images/cm_part/petter2/petter_AC1.pdf

Unfortunately, it is not at all clear, but if you can identify just one dimension, you could scale the others off the drawing. I might have the original in a box in the loft, if I didn't throw it away when I replaced my ac2w with a Yanmar 1GM10 in 2005. I am nursing a heavy cold at the moment, but might get a chance to look for it later in the week.

morning
thanks for that, but I found that linc and cant make out the numbers although the width looks like 24 3/4"
send your misses to get the book ;-)

cheers

Either a Yanmar 1GM or a Nanni/Beta 10/14 will fit in the physical space although you will have to rebuild the engine bearers as the centres and heights are different. Some Petters were also assymetric depending on the gearbox fitted. You also need to consider the propshaft which may well only be 3/4" whereas the bigger engines really need a 1" - and of course a bigger prop depending on what gearbox ratio you choose.

Mick,

I haven't managed to find the handbook yet, but I have scaled these dimensions off the drawing:

Width between centres of engine mounts 15 1/2 inches

Height to top of engine from engine mounts 15 inches

Overall length from front of engine (cranking shaft) to gearbox output shaft flange 30 inches

You may try emailing this company http://www.meadplant.com/lister-petter.htm, just in case. They should have documentation.

Thanks but I have two books both down the boat !
I spoke to em back in the summer and they have things like gasket sets and other service parts, of course all the internal parts are the same for the ac2 air cooled
my engine has had a hard life although I decoked and lapped the valves in and fitted err good head gaskets it still flipping blew.
I'd checked the heads re warpage at the time and both were within tolerances. I might try again with gaskets from meads as long as their not made by the firm in york they should be ok
Thanks for the sizes of the mountings eygthene

cheers

Mick,

You mentioned two heads, but the sizes I referred to were for the single cylinder engine (Petter mini six AC1W), as was the manual that I showed the link for. The width and height would be the same for the twin, but the overall length would be about 4 inches longer.

ok thanks for that. I wont go for the engine now which was a bmc 1.5 the canted over version. So ideal to fit under the cockpit floor but to wide for my engine beds
The engines on ebay, I think it's from a ju van
cheers

I have a big pdf of the AC1W is it much different.?

Well, anyway, I replaced a AC1W with a Yanmar 2YM15, it "sailed" in the space, actually much shorter
than the AC1W, short enough to get an aquadrive in.
