Probably been asked many times before but is there an sedative you can use in your petrol tank overwinter to keep petrol stable.... am thinking about an onboard tank of about 200 litres.

Search 'fuel stabiliser'. Add it before your last run of the season so it gets through the system

Shouldn’t be needed......I never used any additive in my petrol tank over the winter months.

Just never use Bio Petrol it will stratify.

I usually store about 15 gallons of petrol over a winter on the boat and have never had any problems BUT this is a good post as things are now changing with 5% bio and soon to be 10% in the future.

Petrol doesn’t like heat. The “Lights” vaporise and reduce the Octane rating. Never a great idea to use last years petrol. Save it for the lawn mower.

Personally I wouldn’t even attempt to remove 2 litres of petrol from on onboard tank ... let alone 200 litres without specialist help.
If the petrol has no “snake oil” additives then Quicksilver supplies a Fuel Stabiliser that I have used successfully.
However with Ethanol blends now commonplace I use Startron Fuel Treatment after each fuel “top up”. You can initially use Starton as fuel winter storage by doubling the dose.
I cannot say for any certainty that any of these additives are beneficial, but I have never had any problems starting and running after the winter storage so I will continue to use them.
If you are concerned and you have high performance engines that rely on consistent levels of octane, you can add an octane boost treatment in the spring or just put in a few litres of higher octane fuel to start with as a top ups.
