Theres a petrol station across the road from the marina. Speak to the young lady in the office and she'll let you nick one of the trollies, I've had to do it a couple of times but they're helpful with use spirit burners.

Go to the marina, it's far closer than the harbour. Can get short term visitor berth. They have trolleys in the marina (pound in slot jobs) and can also borrow jerry cans from marina office.

The petrol station is a 10 minute walk away...out of marina, and head up the road, it's literally at the end of the road, you can't miss it.

It's the only petrol available between Poole and Dartmouth (Torquay has petrol, but was out of action end of last year due to redevelopment, and not sure if it's back on line yet) unless you head into some of the harbours in Lyme Bay

Brilliant, thanks a lot.
We're hoping to head down to Torquay from Poole in June ad will need to re-fuel to be on the safe side.
How long does the journey take... sounds like you've done it ...
Thanks Andy

One of those how long is a piece of string questions. If the weather is fine, once you're out of Poole, about an hour and a half to Weymouth, then all the messing around getting into the marina, refueling etc. Another hour and a half from exit of Weymouth to Torquay. Less if it's flat calm, more, much more, if it's rough.

Don't forget to plan to get round St Albans and Portland. If you've never been round either, take advice and check tides carefully first. Once round Portland, Lyme Bay very exposed, so don't venture out there unless you're quite experienced

Oops, just looked at your profile.

Allow two+ hours from Poole to Weymouth and from Weymouth to Torquay. Assuming 23knts cruising speed, and inevitable stops. I tend to just blast along without pit stops when I'm by myself

Local bye laws say that they cannot provide petrol at waterside.....nothing between Poole and Dartmouth at present. I like to refuel before heading into Lyme Bay, when heading for Salcombe, and have never found an alternative. Got the range to do Salcombe from Lymington in one shot, but safety factor unless weather extremely good says refuel. Weymouth is the only choice, unless someone else knows a better alternative

Only one place in Lyme Bay where you could fill up and that's Axmouth (Seaton) but wouldn't recommend it, can only really get in at the top of the tide. The garage is just across the road, no more than 50 yards.

We did the same journey last August (Cobbs to Torquay) in a 25 foot single petrol engine, and for the first time. Was planning on it taking about 4 hours, weather Slight to Moderate. All well for 1st hour, then waves got bigger. Bottom line was it took 7 hours, arrived on vapour in the tank, soaked through to the skin, felt great and can't wait to do it again this year (now have 28 foot twin diesel).
One word of caution. Check for petrol availability at Torquay as nearest station is 10 minutes by car, and all up hill. We were lucky that the Marina Staff gave us a couple of lifts in their pickup so we could get the 280 litres to get us back (Well Done MDL).
Return journey Torquay to Ocean Village - 6 hours - Fuel left in tank.
For a small motor boat crossing Lyme Bay do the Raggie thing and check wind and tide, as coming back was far more pleasant.
