Good day to all members. New to the forum.

I have searched extensively on line and with Perkins Co themselves to identify the motor model in my 35' Admirals Barge ex HMS Achilles.

As the boat was built in 1936 it is obviously not an original engine, but a replacement installed by the Navy.

Numbers on the engine are: c240... and 2097910 - without any letters preceding the number.

Can anybody assist in identifying the Perkins marine diesel please?

cheers,

More details neededlike how many cylinders and may be a picture would help.

I have a Perkins 4 cylinder 4 236 in my boat

Google Perkins engines may help you identify your engine

Thanks for the reply Roger.

It is a 4 cylinder, green painted motor.
Has a Borg Warner gearbox.

If I remember rightly - the old Perkins had the serial number / model number down on the block near either the water pump or the injection pump.

The number when given to Perkins tells whether its a standing industrial engine (my 4-107 is one) or a modified vehicle engine or a marine unit.

While that is useful for more recent engines, the one the OP has is a much earlier P4 (also made as a P3 and P6) Mainly used in Massey Ferguson tractors. The P3 was also fitted to Trojan vans. A mate had one in the early 60s. 30mph just about achievable and very exciting. trojanmuseumtrust.org/gallery/postwarvans/
