Passed a Rover 75 tourer with Police marking the other day, could be a MG ZT with a Rover badge?, so add to your list.

This might help.....most police forces can only afford one decent radar camara which is moved randomly around the speed camara,s.In the others they put a cheap version which flashes but has no camara, and as mentined if not properly adgusted can flash even if your on the wrong side of road...so if not heard within i think it,s 14days forget it.

I've been lucky, got a clean point free licence at the mo. Has been for the last ten years or so! You watch now I've said that I'll get done for something.

Don't you believe it about the M25.. I got done for doing 65 mph having just joined M25 at 12.15 a.m. with an empty motorway. Only I didn't know it was a 40 mph limit..got my first ever 3 points and a £60 fine even after writing and pleading. I understand they stay on for 3 years.

Oh yeah, that list just about covers every car on the motorway. The C class that did for me had no aerials or other appendages, just a box on the top of the dashboard and they knew exactly what they were doing because they slipped onto a section of road with the setting sun behind them to make it harder for drivers to spot them in their mirrors. Oh and it was silver like 90% of Mercs.

Well, if that was through the roadworks section or the variable limits thats asking for it. Must keep to the limits there and rightly so

Too true. Unmarled cars are the only Mercs BMW's etc etc that aren't hanging on to the bumper of the car in front trying to push thru!

! was coming out of London last week along the A3. I know the road well and where all the cameras are sited. I had, what I can only describe as a, complete twat in 3 series sitting on my back bumper wanting to get past. I was doing 65 70ish, which is above the limit. The more he pushed to more I slowed. Knowing a camera was coming up I slowed even more, down to the limit just to wind him up even more. Just before the camera I pulled into a gap in the middle lane. Safe to say Mr Braindead beemer driver gave the throttle plenty of hoof and flew by. I estimate that he went thru the camera doing at least 80. All in a 50 limit.

When I got to the roundabout at Tolworth and pulled up at the lights, guess who was sitting in the lane to my right. I just looked and smiled. I know he's going to get done for it. I saw them filling the camera that morning.....laugh.......I was wetting myself!

I know.....I'm a barsteward, but it made my day.

My last 3 points was by a fully marked ML and with the sun setting, by the time I realised he had clocked me in-excess of 95mph, I pulled off at the next junction at the last minute when he followed I knew I was done.

He asked if I had pulled off to lose him, which I replies Yes, and he was ok with it. Also asked what my top speed was, I said abour 115-120 (New Range Rover) and he said at 1 point thought you was going to put your foot down to lose me, wish I had now.

Still got 3 points pending from M6, but not sure who the driver was!!!

Points stay for 3 years.

I got flashed last night south of Salisbury @ about midnight returning home after the butters cruise to Cherbourg. Strange though as it was head on by a purple light? No I wasn't hallucinating do forward speed camera lights purple I thought they were standard white flash. Didn't see any lines on the road or the yellow box beforehand either
If it was a speed camera then damned dangerous as it spoilt my vision for a few seconds
Will wait for the points and fine as last time 5 yrs ago in the Salisbury area (north side this time) got done at 0515 within 50 yards of a 'end of speed restriction sign' £140 + 4 points. Beautiful June morning no cars around so it wasn't a car travelling in the opposite direction. Oh well.

I do get bored driving around. On another point. I tend not to drive too fast now. I spent a day on an unofficial driving course with a good friend of mine thats a copper. To keep a car under control at speed when situations arise is difficult. It opened my eyes. I'd like to see people who drive these unguided missles react in certain situations.
I thought I was an OK driver until I went out in a car with this copper!

For totting up purposes they go for three years, normally from date of offence (fixed points) or date of conviction (non fixed), but my barrister managed from date of offence on all (which kept my licence). Stay on your licence for 4 years, after that can be removed. This is a good site http://www.speed-trap.co.uk/

'But i-o-m, 6 points on licence - you are almost dicing with death because a 96mph pull would get you 4 or 5 points, and a 100mph pull 6 points.'

On occasions you can be banned or imprisoned for speeds over 90mph. New technology under test at the mo will, if used in the future, record the speed of every vehicle on the roads over given time/distance and tot it up on a puter which will contact you etc - like a gas bill or similar - too big a bill and you are banned. My pal works on high tech gizmos and reckons it will be ready within three years.

Lets hope not! Roy

Re: hi-tek gizmo

will it use gps tho? So praps just stay with old banger motors. Anyway, average speed thingy shd be ok cos just leave it in the drive on tickover, no?

alternatively, there is a hope that tories will roll away a lot of cameras, and even labour lot are ahem quietly turning some of them off. On the A2 inside the M25 the only smashups seem to at the cameras.

Otherwsie, perhaps you could buy your mate a lot of drinks?

I think it's based on number plate recognition, spot car at site A, then at site B or C. Distance apart known.... Can't see any way around it other than Bond-style revolving plates.

I am told (but don't really believe it) that the French use credit card info from tolls in the same way. I use different cards and cash in case.

I got a bit lost because I missed the correct junction ie jct 29. So I ended up going through "port Glasgow" It was along that stretch just before a rounabout and the centre if memory serves me right.
I posted on my previous "Largs" thread re my trip. Pretty uneventfull really cos of the weather we did not get out, lovely marina though. Petty its so far away for me to travel. My friend with the Maxum 2700 is however staying there, he likes it so much he's not bothering going back to W,mere.
