I've no connection and I've not placed an order so can't comment on stock availability and service, but a French sailing friend has just forwarded this site to me: https://www.parts4engines.com/volvo-penta-md2040-parts/

Some of the prices look very keen compared to some of the prices I've seen; even from Volspec etc.

If the site has been highlighted before, then give this post a stiff ignoring.

Part4engine much cheaper, plus better service .

I am a Keypart customer of long standing, my reasons, - they stock everything I have ever wanted except one item*, they discount everything and also price VP parts alongside cheaper after market alternatives so you can choose for yourself, they do same day dispatch every time and usually deliver within 24 hours, and even to up here in the so called 'Highlands', they deliver all my orders for FREE!!!!! Who can match that?

* little metal drain plug (to replace standard nylon for B.S.S.) to fit bowl of CAV primary fuel filter/ water separator.

Cheaper parts than I have seen thanks for link...

I have found that original filters and several other parts can be bought from volvo car main dealers significantly cheaper than from chandlers, when I was looking for rings for my xc90 I found that they are the same part numbers as those for the penta but with a smaller price tag...

My daughter, who works in the motor industry, gets me oil and fuel filters for our VP2003 at about £5 each, using the part numbers and equivalents. Volvo don't make filters!

Most of the parts are not made by Volvo, as you say filters are a good example, but if your referring to my posting, I was just showing that keyparts are more expensive then partss4engine, plus when you work out parts4engine can supply a fuel and oil filter for around a pound or so more then then the price you daughter getting them for trade if not less, not a bad deal, would you not say.

Had a quick look at my VP2020, could not find anything I am likely buy at 66% off, or anything like it, If I had I would probably be suspicious anyway, I think I will stick with Keypart.

The thing with parts4engines is that they are primarily a specialist in Perkins engines. They are most competitive on the MD22 range which as most know is a BL Montego etc engine so had a huge aftermarket in its time. Good example is the cam belt that Vic quotes. Some parts are specific to the marinised version and not so relatively cheap as the automotive bits.

The 20X0 and DI series are also Perkins but the usual service parts (filters etc) are pattern parts and not too different in price from other suppliers such as Keyparts. Where they do seem to be competitive is in the Perkins engine parts for these engines, but to be honest hardly anybody ever needs these sorts of parts, although if rebuilding an engine, using their parts could make the difference economically between doing it or scrapping the engine.

Have spoken to "the man" at P4E a couple of times. He is a yottie, he tells me he deals direct with perkins for some of his stock and commissions other parts to be made specifically for him. All the stuff I have bought off him has been top quality.

Those prices indicate they are cheap fakes I wouldn't go near them.

These prices indicate the level of mark-up applied by the manufacturers to parts supplied by their subcontractors.
