Parsons Marinomatic transmission woes.

I have just acquired a seized 1960`s vintage 35 hp. Ford engine and Parsons Marinomatic transmission with reduction gear. The two will not separate. A previous owner tried and failed miserably, using lots of negative emotion as well as brute strength and bloody ignorance. The bell housing is bent and even cracked in some places. Because the crank had broken in two pieces at the rear of the engine, all I had to do was remove one main bearing cap and voila.

The problem still persists, however. There is a 3/4" linear play of the bit of crank still attached in the tranny, then it stops with a mechanical thud. This leads me to believe two things:

1. The crankshaft spline is not seized in the transmission.

2. that the end of the crankshaft is bolted to a central shaft inside the transmission.

Any suggestions? These engines and transmissions are totally unknown in Canada. As luck would have it, I`ve managed to purchase a good engine and all I need to be in wooden boat heaven, is to match it to the Marinomatic.

I have the original owner`s manual for the tranny, an owner`s workshop manual for a Ford Anglia 105E.
