I have just purchased a secondhand Taylor's Para-fin stove for my old ketch. The top is cast iron coated by some process which leaves a coating which looks like a blend between vitreous enamel and Chrome plating. The effect of heat has turned the two plates which occupy the burner spaces a multi-colour, with a mother -of-pearl sheen. Does any one know what the process is, and how I restore it? The cast iron is rusty, of course, but I can immerse it in molasses to cure that, leaving bright, fresh metal. The coating, though has me baffled!
