Can anyone tell me what's going on here? We have a number of 3"x8" reclaimed teak beams. They're fine on the outside but on machining, some have a pale discolouration running through the timber. Very annoying!

I would suggest you post your query on the Wooden Boat forum and wait for a guru call Bob Smalser to give a damned good steer...

If you find it really annoying, you could pass them on to me, cheap or I'll take them off your hands!

Anyway, seen that in Iroko before, but never in teak.

Some of the new pucka, plantation grown, quarter sawn etc etc teak from a proper importer is not looking too different from that either.

In fact I bought 25% more recently than I needed, sight unseen, as by bumping up the order that 25% was 'free'. Just as well really as it will be relegated to minor useage.

Annoying innit ?
