I have just removed the headlining from my cockpit, and now face scraping away the sticky gluey mess behind it.

Question is, once that's done, what paint will
(a) stick to a slightly less than perfect surface
(b) look great
(c) suppress condensation (I was going to put 'suppress condescension' but I guess that's the skipper's job!)

All help gratefully received.

<font color=blue>I got a geezer to do a painting of mine. He was sitting on the bank with his easel and I asked him. I went shopping for about an hour when when I came back he'd done a smashing one which I have him £25 for.

For a hard long lasting gloss try International Perfection. Its a two pack polyurethane and comes in all colours. I doubt if any paint finish will suppress condensation though - ventilation is the answer to that.

There is some stuff that I have (but before I had the boat) which is an insulating additive. But, I can't say it looks great enough to use in a cockpit headlining. I would stick thin cork tiles to the surface, then get a decent upholsterer to put in another headlining which will look good, not need touch ing up, and be ok if tyou bash your head on it.

Sorry for the delay, and thanks for the answers.

I did the job, in the end, with International Bilge and Locker paint. Primer, then four coats, and it's splendid.

I hear what others say about ventilation, but the cockpit (semi-enclosed wheelhouse with canvas canopy on the back) does suffer a little in the early mornings during spells of hot days and high pressure.

Anyhow, all going well now.

have you got enough room to clad it in pine?

going to do it on mine, looks great, needs to be waxed or oiled, insulate in between with polystyrene. iv'e used cheapo B&Q T&G before, don't worry about the warp. chances are it'll be along the grain, so'll make for a better fit.

just a thought. steve.
