Is there a primer / paint recommended for use on Alluminium above water line but certainly within a salt water environment. Paint applied by manufacturer is now peeling off.

Many thanks is advance of anyone kind enough to reply.

Neil.

Agreed. Etch primer is the keying agent. Available as a standard product from International paints at your chandler. Advice on preparation and painting is in their product booklet.

The etch prime from the car places isn't much cop. I used it on my outdrive. The paint fell off in one season. Followed all the directions to the letter. The stuff from International is much better alto double the cost.

An alternative option is a product from Trimite industrial coatings. Its still an etch prime, but its used on aeroplans. One tip. dont get it on anything that you dont want it on. Once cured, you cant get the stuff off!

What do you mean I cant get the credit?? They're onl spark plugs!!

Agree with BarryH regarding the etch primer used in the aircraft industry, I used to work for BAe in an aircraft factory and all the 'ali' parts that were painted had a coat of "PS" (I never did find out what the acronyme was) etch primer. It is a horrible yellowy-green colour but was perfect for the job. Once on, it stayed on. Top coats were two part polyurathane paints that were very resilient. It didn't scratch but did chip.
If you can get hold of this type of etch primer then I reckon youv'e got the best available.
