I've just acquired a lovely wooden clinker dinghy painted red.

It's 4 years old & the wood is all good. It needs a rub down and a coat of paint, can anyone please recommend what paint to use.

Useage will be a mixture of fresh & salt water.

Many thanks

As you are not stripping back to bare wood then you are limited to one pot paints.
My suggestion would be Stoppani but I am Med based. International Toplac seems OK these days and good choice of colours available.
Cheers,
Chris

You don't have to use 'reassuringly expensive' marine paints. Any good exterior oil or alkyd paint will be fine. Steer clear of polyurethenes (hard to strip in future years) or 'One coat' magic paints.
Sand smooth, patch prime bare timber, patch undercoat twice, and apply another coat of gloss. Job done.
Spend money saved on fine wines and fine women (preferably your own!)

For a superb finish on a traditional wooden boat Epifanes bootlak (oil based), Epifanes Monourethane is good on GRP and will also give a super finish, but beware of putting it on on a too cold day as it will dull reallly easy.
Toplac is similar.
But if its a cheap boat or you might scratch it & dont want to cry every time you do, Leyland or B&Q, Do it all, whatever, own brands.
