Today I have finished cleaning off the glue in my forecabin that failed to retain the vinyl headlining!

As she is only a small boat I am now undecided as to either glue in a new headlining or just paint the area.

What would you do given the same circumstances?

Depends on how early and late season you plan to use it. COld air outside will make bare GRP sweat, and you will wake up in the morning thoroughly damp! Set against that the difficulty of setting up a headliner to look really good..... but if you do, use foam backed as it provides much better insulation.

Vinyl.

We used to have a painted forecabin, but it's our main sleeping quarters and we got fed up with being dripped upon. Foam backed vinyl cuts down the condensation dramatically. If you've enough headroom, putting the vinyl onto plywood then attaching the plywood to the deckhead worked quite well. I just couldn't get the stuff to stick to the deckhead directly.

Our 22 foot Anderson has the forecabin painted. The deck and coachroof is a grp / foam core so condensation is not too bad. If your boat is a solid GRP construction it will sweat badly in cold weather if you use only paint.

This one has been talked to death several times. There are several options talked about HERE including my own solution (see post on Hi Hude) which makes use of felt backed carpet.

Thanks for the link Mark....and of course to the other replies to my thread. Yes it does look as though I shall have to use a vinyl covering again!
