Paedophiles and marinas

Re: Moderators, attention please.

Just move it Opp Norf .. they don't tollerate that sort of behaviour up there! ;)

No, they just make their hostility very clear so that anyone who has those abhorrent feelings buries them, hides away, gets no treatment, does not come to the attention of the authorities and is not monitored. They become a very very dangerous individual who has slipped off the radar and no body knows who he is...

I know the environment I would rather live in!

Re: Moderators, attention please.

What does it take to get a thread locked ?? Iv asked the mods 3 times to lock it !! ........ Maybe if it referred to an old trawler and included the word "Awesome" things would happen ....and fast !,

Re: Moderators, attention please.

But why should it be locked?
Is it not fair to discuss these things?

No one has mentioned the marina or the names involved - though a few may be able to discover it if they search hard enough - personally, I don't want to know !

slightly off topic - I met a chap who is a police officer working with sex offenders ... a friend asked him "do you enjoy your work" ... :o

perhaps enjoy is a little strong ... !

Said something you might later regret, perhaps?

Im not sure not sure where harassment starts for me by blabbing it to all albeit details are freely available on the net . Others in the marina are aware of this character but don't seen to be too worried about it . Maybe I'll mention it to the marina boss but since he has "served his time ."so to speak the marinas hands may be tied .
I'm sure he would be on the " register" and judging by the time of sentencing and arrival in marina ,(BTW he was new to sailing on arrival ) the scarpered to start a new life !!

No sympathy for the guy involved but who the hell are you to try & hound him out.! Would you do the same if he was a convicted thief or burglar.? Leave him alone & mind your own business. It may be a 1st offence & he's extremely embarrassed already & anxious to put it behind him.

Like I said earlier - "Live and let live? Yes - if it doesn't impact my life - but it does* ... so it's very hard to forgive and forget ... "

Having just retired from the police I can assure you the sense of satisfaction you feel after successfully catching and prosecuting any criminal is easily matched by the frustration and disappointment you feel when you see people behaving in the way that is being exhibited by some on here. Mob mentality is one of the worse aspects you will ever see in any society, far worse in my opinion than some of the issues they are claiming to address.

I reckon your original post backfired on you. Instead of the baying rabble you hoped to arouse, you got thoughtful, reasoned posts from people with common sense and experience of life. Ordinary decent people are naturally appalled by some of the horrible things done to children but they know that lynch mobs will achieve nothing except to drive paedophiles into hiding and make it harder to prevent them offending again.

Re: Moderators, attention please.

Yes. That seems to be the top and bottom of it.
Clyst (the expert) sees his presence as an ill-defined threat.
Sandyman postulates that this bloke will start abusing children in the marina. Perhaps the reason he can't understand why the bloke didn't get a custodial sentence is because he was not involved in the prosecution and doesn't know the actual facts.

These are merely fears with nothing to support them except that the bloke has been convicted of a different offence.

Most posters in the thread can see this.
Most seem to accept that the offender is now in the virtual custody of the authorities, but the OP feels the need to make his own stand against the bloke.

If Clyst has professional experience of these behaviours, I find it remarkable that he is acting as vigilante on this occasion.

Re: Moderators, attention please.

I think in fairness to Clyst he has probably had more exposure than most to the victims of such offences so he could be excused having quite strong feeling about such things, and he wasn't actually advocating anything to extreme. I just think he needed to appreciate there are two sides to an issue and he should look at the bigger picture, and I suspect he realised that after the first few posts.......

They're out there

I think it was JumbleDuck who posted there are 2% of the population with Paedophile inclinations. If that's correct, then in the average 500 berth Marina there are potentially 10 paedophiles at any time. At least in the OP's case, the bertholders are aware of this chap and can keep an eye on his behaviour but what about the other 9 who are as yet unidentified?
M
You're going to have to shift your boat to an awful lot of different marinas over a season before you discover a paedophile free marina.

According to a programme I have just been watching, 1% of the population are psychopaths. So your marina will have 5 psychopaths as well as the 10 paedophiles.

Safer to go and anchor somewhere!

Right, so he says there is a person with a criminal conviction living in the marina. What do you think they would do?

I don't know, but I think the police might be in a better position to review the situation. they would asses risk, if any, and make sure everyone behaves in a reasonable manner. what do you think they would do then ?

Re: Moderators, attention please.

My kids spend time on my boat. I'd move from that marina sharpish. I wouldn't put them at any risk.

It's a sad reality that the children most at risk to abuse are those that are already vulnerable due to lifestyle and their care regime. Is there a particular reason you feel your children would be at any risk in the scenario described by the OP?

Our children are exposed to all kinds of risk on a daily basis. Teaching them to be aware of risk and how to manage it is a far more effective method of preparing them for life than trying to isolate them from it, or worse still filling their heads with our paranoia and an unreasonable perception of danger.

Re: Moderators, attention please.

Think it is still fact that most abuse takes place within the family or by close family friends. Stranger abuse is still relatively rare, it is people that take advantage of our trust that are the major problem.
