OZ\'s Birthday

I am sure you all know its OZ's birthday today… to celebrate here in Melbourne, we have a race to Geelong, about 30nm away. We then raid the RGYC, drink all their beer (prices of which suddenly went up today) any spend the weekend either at Church or racing again tomorrow( Sunday) before the race home on Monday… it being a long weekend.

This morning the race started at 0830 with about 320 yachts crossing the two starting lines (we split the start)… it was spectacular, particularly as spinnakers were hoisted soon after the start.

Once again I had committee boat duty but the 37*C temperature and good 15/20 NE almost made me wish I were amongst them. At least I wont have too much of a headache tomorrow.
The predictions for the weekend are 37*C on Sunday and Monday. How does that make you feel, freezing in UK

Didn't know it was his birthday; I've just been reading his book on wines!

Re: Melbourne weather

Hope you are right...we need it badly, still in the middle of a very severe drought.
However its now 1228 and no sign of rain.... it is 35*C though, how cold is it here ?

Re: Melbourne weather

It has warmed up in NW England, around 10C today with gales and heavy rain forecast for tomorrow. I thought your neck of the woods was relatively wet, compared with other parts of Oz. I always liked Tasmania because of its "English" climate.

On a rather gleeful note, I hear that you lost to the Kiwis the other day.

Re: OZ\'s Birthday

To celebrate Oz day the Aussies in our little live-aboard corner threw a party for the rest in a local hostelry.
Fosters and various aussie plonks.
There were five nationalities there (they even invited the poms) and the singing was good.
A warm atmosphere, just as well for the ice in which we had all been stuck for a month has finally melted.
Thanks Oz.

Brings a lump to the throat...

when you see loads of yachts under sail - must have been a grand sight.

Am now downing a can of Swan on you're behalf - cheers.

p.s. Still can't forgive you for winning the darts. I thought the deal was that you're mob wins the outdoor stuff and we win the indoor stuff.

Re: Melbourne weather

Miker... I cannot let that one go... we actually have LESS rain per year than our main rival SYDNEY... we can however do with tons more. Yes Tassie is great.. I would live there if only they would move it further north.

Yep we lost to the Kiwis...who lost to SA last night.
Problem was that we were winning too much and all the interest was going out of the game , plus the crowds were down, hence they decided we shoul;d "take a dive" ...
We may even let NZ win the series.

Vic... ok ok I passed your message on , but it was to late. Next time I promise YOU will win the indoor stuff.
Now I will have to have several VB's to drink your health.
