Just wondering, perhaps someone here can enlighten me. Does the constant movement of boats whether by rowing or power oxygenate the water?

any boaty process which entrains atmospheric air with the supportive water will temporarily and locally increase the oxygen level. However, movement through the water and stirring up mud and debris can also cause release of methane from the decomposing veg matter. This cause Dan to heat up.

I've often sat by Ham Haugh weir and wondered about the oxygenation function, especially when the river gets a bit whiffy in summer and low flow rates. Maybe that's why fishermen use the area below weirs so much.

The other by-product of shaking up water is zillions of negative ions - which makes people feel happy and is very good for health.
