I was just wondering what experiences may have been had by anyone who has used Owen Sails. I can't find anything negative about them using search (though I never found anything positive either).
I am looking at ordering a new jib for my Westerly Storm (currently 150% Genoa only) and was looking for any feedback whatsoever.

Thanks.

Chris Owen knows how things work so if you are contemplating using them it is worth getting them to look at everything, the advice you get on rig set up etc. is worth as much as the sails. (Chris designed the spinnakers for the sucessful GB Yngling team at Beijing)
They made me a roller reefing blade with vertical battens, a fast well made sail. The rest of my sails were from North Finland and the other Finngulf 33 locally which had all Owen sails was significantly faster.

owen sails

Great sails and very helpful company. Sailed over 20,000 miles with main and genoa from Owen and they are still going strong.

Very refreshing company to deal with.

Yes, good company. Over the years they have done our main, genoa and spinnaker. We also got a stackpack and our berth cushions redone by them. Very good quality, very approachable and answered all my stupid questions . Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Another yes vote! My father had a sprayhood from them which was fantastic and they also repaired a genoa - again excellent workmanship. Word of mouth seems to be that they are very very good.

Another positive

Haven't had sails made up by Owen, but did have to call on them at short notice to pick-up, repair and return my Main, which tore on day 1 of the summer holiday. They did this very efficiently and organised one of their staff to personally collect and return the sail to Oban Marina. Having gone through all the effort of removing the Main (stack-pack and lazy-jacks) I also felt it would be worth getting the stack-pack zip completely replaced before it broke. Again, as part of the same repair, they did this very efficently. Overall, very pleased with their service.

Well, if nobody else will criticise them, I'll have a go...
They are not cheap.
They have been known to make a mistake (but they did correct it quickly).

Having said that, I have used them to repair a Genoa, repair a cruising chute, replace a sprayhood, make berth cushions and replace main and Genoa. I'm poorer but I keep going back for more...

You will get Chris himself to measure up and design your sail. You can go into the loft and meet the team who cut the panels (CNC table plotter), stick the panels together and sew them up.
It won't be cheap, but the service and follow up that I had from them was excellent, and the sails brilliant. (Roller Genoa with foam luff and fully battened main). Put your money into the best cloth that you can afford and listen to Chris's advice.
As you are in the wastelands of cold, bleak Buchan, you will have to travel whoever you chose, so also go and speak to John Highcock at saturn sails in Largs.
PM me if you've got more questions

Another satisfied customer. Both sails now Owen. As has been said, not cheap, but you do get the quality.
