Overwintering in Turkey

Good morning:

Don't think I would waste much time considering Netsel Marina in Marmaris as they have just introduced charges for electricity which in the past has been factored into the berthing charges making it a serious contender however at the moment there are forty very angry liveaboards.

People are not so much angry at the introduction of charges even though it is being introduced mid-contract for most but at the price per kilowatt demanded. For example whereas a local would pay between .12 and .32 lira per kw depending on the time of day the marina is demanding .44 Euros (1.3 lira) making for a mark up of more than 400 %. Every kw of electricity consumed makes a profit of almost a lira or more for the marina.

Of course, only the private clients will be expected to pay because the charter companies are reportedly exempt.

When requesting quotations I suggest you include this subject because it can and will add a substantial amount to your bill.

Don't expect many of those who chose to over-winter here will be back next year.

Cheers

Squeaky

Squeaky Its probably worse than you are painting . Currently the fixed rate domestic tariff is 36 kr including taxes and Netsel will presumably be on a commercial rate which is around 20% cheaper. There is a temporary rate which builder/developers used which is higher but I cannot see your electricity being classified as temporary as it comes from an installed system . If they are open to any persuasion you may find that this link to a domestic bill calculator is helpful and you might ask them if their mark up is on the total unit rate and if so are the Vergi aware of the mark up on taxes .

Alo 179 is also a useful number to ring if you believe you are being ripped off .

I think its excessive and why take a 12 month contract? I thought the reason we have boats is because they are mobile.
I was one of the first in D marine Turgutreis, in 2004. At the time they were begging people to stay

1bobt- To clarify why we take a 12 month contract. The reason is that my wife is still working hence we are unable to cruise from April to October. I wish we could, believe me!

I've recently retired and will be flying to Turkey at the end of April, the boat is due for lifting in on May 10 when my wife will fly out and we will spend a couple of weeks cruising. I've not yet booked a return flight so will probably stay on for another month after she leaves.
We're moving to Kaş marina in September so another two months in the autumn for me and three weeks for my wife. I'm sure you now understand why we take 12 month contracts and why we are prepared to pay for security and peace of mind.
