Hi

Just in case anyone is thinking about visiting Hull marina between now and the end of March 2012--------

""Would all Hull Marina customers please be aware that during the period 1st October 2011 to 31st March 2012, any penning activity between the hours of 2000 and 0600 will need to be booked with the duty lock keeper at least 24 hours prior to the overnight period of which you wish to pen. The booking can be made in person or by calling the Lock Keeper on: 07789178501, Channel 80 or during office working hours on: 01482 609960.

Cancellations will be accepted at any time up to 1600 prior to the overnight period for which the booking was made. Cancellations made after this time may be subject to a £25 charge unless the cancellation was due to severe weather conditions.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact the Hull office on: 01482 609960.""

I know of a number of berth holders who are not happy with this and wonder if this sort of scheme is used at other locked marinas?

There is a security guard on duty but he is not allowed to use the lock gates!!!!

I believe out of season, in fact I think simple out of hours locking at Preston is a challenge that requires arrangement and payment.

I've certainly come across several places in France where locks and/or bridges only open when tide and office hours coincide.

Hello Dansar,

The news doesn't surprise me ... we came back to Hull from Holland about a month ago and decided to stay at the marina for a year contract. We were last there in 2007/2008 and it was a mis-managed shambles then. I thought it had got better but your news makes me think otherwise !
I hope common sense prevails with the 'office' and they look after the berth holders while appreciating that the Humber can often change and therefore plans too ...
I see your boat is Salutation ? I think we are just along from you on AA by the gate - we are 'Icarus' - will be there the weekend after next and be pottering about. Pop on for a coffee .. or beer ... or rum :)

Cheers

Hi

Received this email from the Marina this afternoon. It never rains but pours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there a connection I ask?

Hull Marina Customer Information Update

I am writing to inform you that Hull City Council have recently advised BWML of the potential need to carry out emergency works to the lock gate seal and winches. They have initially indicated that they are seeking to carry out the works from early January 2012 to mid-March 2012, a potential closure of 10-12 weeks, this is subject to the availability of their contractor.

BWML are in continued discussions with Hull City Council and we shall try very hard to minimise the customer disruption, however the City Council, our Landlord, are protected within the exchanged lease when such works become a necessity.

We will keep you informed with further information when we receive it.

Just for info!

Blimey, it's like we've never been away .... inept springs to mind. By the way, I am reliably informed by SWMBO that we are not on AA but B21

It is now hoped the works will take 8 weeks or less, commencing 9th January. Apparently it is warranty work as the gate seals may have been fitted incorrectly. It is also hoped that the out basin channel will be dredged near to the end of the works.

We've arranged our lift out to co-incide with these works... booked before the rush starts!

The basin channel is a real mess, or at least the last time I saw it. A guy had missed the tide and was trying to get ashore. boat careened in the mud, guy lathered in good old Humber mud :(

They were flushing the lock today to try to clear some of the build up. The entrance has silted up from the eastern side by 2/3rds - on entering you need to head towards the waiting pontoon, when abeam of it you can head to the lock entrance. There is currently a narrowing of the channel about 50-75ft from the lock entrance also. Photo taken by a friend 24/10 at about 5 hours before high water.

The approach to the lock has now been dredged (ploughed) which has increased the depth and widened the channel slightly but there is still the bank on the east side of the basin. Further dredging is being discussed with the local council.
