Have just seen the the shortlist for 'Sports Personality of the Year' - our Ellen isn't on it but Beckham is, and he has not had a great year (I am a Man U follower).

DON'T VOTE as a protest.

What sort of year they have had is surely irrelevant? not voting on their sporting ability...voting for their contribution to the field of sport ...it's all in the title..?

IMHO

Well - I wouldn't be voting for him if he held me up at the supermarket checkout whilst he fiddled with his phone.
Glad Paula Ratcliffe won it - I'm not that interested in marathons, but I wouldn't mind a couple of laps under the duvet with her!

Re: sport, huh?

i did start watching it, but then it became a lot of golf and snooker. Not much to do with sport in my book. There again, neither is sitting on deck drinking cupasoups for three months....

Re: The best woman won

She is a worthy winner, as the show unfolded, EM got a mention. R5 today had a fair bit of support for her and derision about the footie bias of it all. How many timnes do we have to see Bobby Charlton there, I think the whole thing is fixed, Beckham was (I understand) at Old Trafford to watch the reds trounce the gunners, but he didn't turn up, maybe 'cause he knew he wasn't going to win it.

Re: sport, huh?

...maybe, maybe not. Drinking cup a soup on deck is easy, doing it up the mast in a F9 gale is another thing. Golf, definately sport, snooker, good game buyt not sport IMHO.

Would you give Ellen your last Rolo?

Boat Race?

TCM, I think you've just invented a new type of boat race! Cups of ham & pea soup at the ready, croutons and all, anchor man gets the minestrone ....

Yes I nearly burst a blood vessel when I saw a darts player nominated! Useful with a heaving line suppose. Let's just hope EM's press coverage has at least inspired lots of kids to take up the sport; actually, thinking about it she's probably scared them into Tiddlewinks.

errr! I certainly wasn't defending him! Just the fact that it was supposed to be about personalities not sporting endeavours.

Would have thought it would be a good chance to nominate and vote for some movers and shakers, but sadly (I didn't watch it, and watch little crap TV) it seems like the great unwashed public triumphed again <s>

I actually don't think Beckham is such a bad lad really - he seems to do his bit and has matured since being awarded the England captaincy.
I still fancy a couple of laps under the duvet with the Radcliffe though!

Re: Paula

if you can manage a couple of laps under the duvet then you should be running marathons and save the sailing for another time!!

Yes, she is nice, and a deserved winner.
