We took Odyssea over to Boulogne for the weekend. Left friday lunchtime and had a relatively uneventful crossing.
Apart from the fact that whenever I used the Radar, the new Navman chartploter froze. Had to turn it off with the circuit breaker. Its never done that before I thought.
As both chartplotter and radar have been used together for the past 2 months with no problems, any ideas?
We arrived Boulogne and all was right with the world.
Then that Tigerman and his good lady (Lyn) turned up in Samarc.
I won't bore you with what followed but it involved copious amounts of drinking, smoky French disco bars, being turned away from restaurants, asking after Byron's mate in the wrong place, more drinking, lots of food, and finally a grade 1 hangover.
Saturday dawned and we sallied forth to the town for Breakfast. Upon our return to Odyssea, Lyn beckoned us over and I approached with a sinking feeling.
A large French yacht had tried to enter the berth next to us, downwind and from the wrong side. The predictable result was their anchor saying a firm hello to our topsides. The damage is down to the matting in places as it scraped along for about 20 cms. Bugger.
The Frenchy was 'tres desolez', he was bang to rights as there were witnesses and a smoking gun of gelcoat on his anchor.
We exchanged insurance details and the usual pleasantries.
Later saw more eating but a little less drinking.
Sunday bought a delightful NE 4 or 5 perhaps 6 in the Dover Strait. Thanks very much I thought. Saturday's forecast was only 3-4 for Sunday.
A lively upwind ride followed, and one more I was glad to be in a sportscruiser and not stuck on a flybridge.
Now to try and find a gelcoat man in Ramsgate that can do a good job, this year, and without me chasing him up every week.
<hr width=100% size=1>We don't want a sports cruiser, totally impractical. Err ok then.
