Just received the invoice - next season on a swinging mooring...

Another 'inflation busting' 7% increase /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif (Where do they get that 2.3% inflation figure from anyway?)

Would be interested to learn about the experience of others on the Orwell.

Sorry chaps, sadly I can beat that….

RN&SYC at Lowestoft a whacking …. 15% …. and invoiced 2 months earlier this year.

However with a full basin and a waiting list I guess the non sailing bodies seem to see us as cash cows.

Crying in my beer……. Peter

Ours went up again this year - with loads of old tosh in the covering letter about how all these improvements had been/will be done - none of which are of real use to the bertholders.
Mind you, one of our neighbours here did a search around for another berth as he wanted to move and found Shotley was the cheapest on the Orwell - so that's of little comfort I know but is something for you Shotly-ites. (You will have a new neighbour this season Mr Morgana).
We do have the option of paying in full with a 5% discount or in five equal instalments January to May inclusive which helps relieve the financial burden.

Second that - been at Shotley for 10 years. Friendly and helpful staff and even if one has a short wait for the lock, it is still quicker than coming down the Orwell from another marina. Just avoid the lock on a Sunday afternoon in the summer! Last year on one occassion we had to wait for up to an hour to get back in. Maybe residents should have a priority?

All fees seem high - but to feel better, just have a look at south coast berthing costs and one starts to feel not so hard done by. I heard that somewhere around the Solent someone was paying marina costs upwards of £5k for a 32ft boat .....

Yes I agree. Shotley is a good and friendly place. We use it a fair bit when leisurely going south, an overnight there is excellent for food booze and especially if we have the grand children with us a decent bit of grass for them to play on. Sadly for us road access is a bit of a bummer, where as Levington is just a stones throw from the A14.
Last October on the way back up to Lowestoft on a Sunday late afternoon had to queue for about 40 minutes for the lock so wouldn’t have been too chuffed if they called the locals first.

Anyway too many more 15% jobbies and I might start to think Shotley’s roads aren’t that bad.

Hi Doug:

Shame about the Russian/Jewish Club you support, Up here we have a proper English one NORWICH... (foods Crap) If you have any loan players going then “Lets be avin em”…..

Any way back to the serious bit...
David is a great guy but couldn’t have offered a berth as there is apparently a waiting list which is possibly what prompted some one to look at us as prime for a hike..

Was it some time back that you were offered £900 for a 30ft berth…. a 34 footer in total is costing me total 3 times that with all the normal bits that go with it. Yes its not Hamble or even Orwell prices but when I sail from Lowestoft I only call starboard on the Seals.... Then maybe that’s a plus?

As I posted on the clubs site… My real grief with the 15% hike is that we are a members owned club and don’t do profit (ish). Even if we were to have such a hike as a wholely members owned club it should have been out for discussion but it looks as if the majority (non berthing) members by way of the Committee have stuck it to the minority (berthing) members in one foul hit. (membership fees only went up by 6%)

I know we have to pay for our re-firb to the clubhouse, but as the immortal phrase goes … Why Me…

[/ QUOTE ]not far off though..... 34' would 'only' be £3k in Shotley... so within a few quid!

I remain in blissful ignorance as to my mooring fees this year. RCYC has not issued the demands this year yet.

Last year it was £277 a quarter for my 35ft. We shall see.

I escaped in 2007 with a whole year bill including lift in and lift out of just under a grand. I am looking for that to be still under a grand.

£114 pa with one of the nicest views on the Orwell.

Marinas are nice for the weekends swmbo comes to the boat but far, far too expensive to let a boat languish in during the week.

Jim

Thinking of sailing down to a mooring tomorrow and poping into RCYC to get some info on membership and mooring if i get a cost would you like to remain blissful and ignorant or would you like to know.

£2400 for 37ft at fambridge which is not too bad but after two years getting bored sailing that last hour up the crouch. doing the finishing touches on the new wing genny this weekend makes the mooring more feasible

I believe we HAVE loaned you a very good youngster Ryan Bertrand.....
......and make sure you look after him /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

It was about 3 years ago when I was offered a berth along the wall, which was and still is quite dodgy with kids throwing stuff over the fence. maybe a bit more than 900 for members berth and prob + vat.

30 ft (9.1 M) mooring at Haven = 1750 pa inc vat + lecy.
hamilton dock for 34 ft would be ....cant work it out £185 per metre + vat + lecy
School rd = 163 per metre.

+5.1% on 2007.......and that due 1st Jan....not sure which is worse before xmas and you dont spend on the family or after when you havent got any money left

Yes Good luck to the Posh lads...
They have all the right connections there now...

We also had a number of good keepers the most recent of which (Green) we virtually gave to West Ham.

Thanks Doug that’s too kind of you, we will look after him and send him back a man.

We have so many on loan players at the moment, they have to be careful with subs or we could wind up over the legal limit for any game, but at least they have filled the skill gap and taken us up league to relative safety.

Don’t get me wrong RN&SC is a great place to be and even on D pontoon there is very little thrown over the wall to the boats (I had a boat on D for about 3 years).
Some of the youngsters used to jump off the wall into the basin in summer at high water and while a few of our members get uppity over it the kids weren’t doing any harm and probably a lot less than some of us did when we were young.

I should have said my fees include membership etc. But I guess it’s just the 15% in one go, which in honesty I hadn’t noticed until another member pointed it out.

Sorry Guapa been drifting a bit….

So can anyone exceed 15%.........................

Peter

Judging by some of the rates already mentioned I may spend my first year a little further North and pay

Running mooring £40 per year
Drascombe type £60 per year
Fore and Aft Swing £100 per year
Pontoon Berth £250 per year

The marina seems to have all the best facilities , including a webcam to keep an eye on the boat and is within about ninety minutes of home
