The news group uk.rec.sailing has a wide base of knowledgable regulars.
The American-dominated rec.boats.electronics has a good pool of electronics expertise.
If you doubt me go to Google news groups and search these groups for some of the topics that have been discussed here recently. I predict you will find information at least as good. It is amazing how the same topics come round in all of these groups.
This forum has the atmosphere of a smaller group of regulars throwing in comments whether or not they actually can contribute anything useful. That is fine, it is more like how most people chat among themselves, but it is not the situation on the newsgroups.
Depends on your particular area of boating interest. This is undoubtedly the best place for practical stuff, both sail and motor, but there are various owner's club type fora as well which can be very useful on specifics. In my case I use the Fairey Owners Club http://www.faireyownersclub.co.uk/forum/ ownersforum a lot because it's highly relevant to the boats I own. It's a little sparse at the moment because it's just changed location. However all the archived messages will be added to the new forum in due course. You could try doing a search using something like (boat name) owners, as search words.
Good luck.
Bill.

You will probably find an owners club forum depending on your boat. But we dont know cos you have not filled in your profile. I use bayliner owners club
