Osea Pier

My chart still shows the light there... (up to date Navionics). Can't recall whether I saw it last time we were there though...

How long ago were the lights at the end of Osea Pier turned off, and why? I've just dropped the hook down from the pier and they would have been useful tonight.

Good to know, thanks, suggest you report it as there has been no notice of their removal. On the gov.uk website it says:
"Reporting navigational hazards
You may get warnings about: damaged or broken lights, fog signals, buoys and navigational aids that affect main shipping lanes
wrecks, reefs, rocks and shoals that might be a danger to main shipping lanes
drifting hazards, eg derelict ships, mines, ice
unexpected changes or closures of established routes
cable or pipe laying, naval exercises or underwater operations that might be a danger for shipping lanes
problems with radio navigation, radio or satellite maritime safety information services
areas to avoid where search and rescue and anti-pollution activities are happening.

Contact the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) Radio navigational warning helpline if you’ve spotted any of these hazards or want to ask about them.

I contact the UKHO and had a helpful, speedy response from their duty officer (reminded me of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy) informing me that it was Trinity House I should be informing. I contacted them last week and will let you know the outcome.

"Osea Island, River Blackwater, Essex. 51-43.1N 000-46.5E.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I thought I should let you know that for some time now the starboard hand fixed lights at the end of Osea pier have been U/S. The lights themselves are extant and still show as operational on current charts. They certainly need to be functional as the pier becomes, arguably, more of a hazard as it falls apart.

Many thanks for your kind attention and please do contact me if you require further information."
