Hello everyone, Compass 24 in Germany sell the origo stoves ( both the 2 burner and the single ). The 2 burner one was £249.99p plus £15 delivery. When i emailed them to ask about vat and customs, they said it was vat and duty paid. My partner ordered one for me for Christmas. DHL were the couriers. At the end of December we got a letter from DHL to say that our item had arrived in the U.K., but because the paper work was incorrect, it was being returned to Germany! The upshot was the Compass refunded Sue her money and said we could go through the buying procedure again. Unfortunately the cooker price has gone up by £30 pounds, so we called it quits this time. Comass called it a 2 flame alcohol cooker, not Origo. It is exactly the same, as i used to have an Origo cooker on my boat. If Compass 24 sell them, then maybe a business over here might be able to import them. Best regards, Oz.

I've an Origo 6000, and think it's great. If the 2 burner is available, it'd be relatively simple to adapt something like this with a burner from the compass 24 unit, to make a 'poor mans' 6000 wouldn't it?
I reckon £250 would be about right, on top of the 3000 cost, so near enough £500, all in.

Just the fuel canisters sell for $170 on Amazon. I grabbed a pair as spares, from a junk stove left by the skip. They cleaned up nicely with citric acid, and burning the residue off the wick.

what did you do to do this? Just use it? Or did you use something more severe like use a blowtorch?

There have been several posts on here regarding Origo's and obtaining them from Compass. Unfortunately I've only ever heard bad reports of the item never arriving - has anyone actually received one from Compass?

No, use will not burn off the residue. There is really very little heat at the surface, since it is cooled by alcohol evaporation in use.

The Origo recommendation to regenerate canisters is (excerpt from Practical Sailor article, ased on interview with former Origo engnieer):
"Contaminated fuel reservoirs reduce heat output. The canister is built using a donut-shaped ring of densely packed mineral wool around the outside, with a glass fiber core up the middle and a sheet of glass fiber on top, just under the wire mesh. Contaminants in the fuel, primarily high-boiling denaturants and fusel oils, migrate upwards with the fuel to the glass mat, where they concentrate and dry into a gunky black residue. Food spills also contribute.

The cure? Let the canister run empty and then let it dry for a day. Burn any organic residue to ash with a propane torch, loosen it with an old tooth brush, and blow it off. If water has accumulated from burning wet alcohol (>5% water), allow the alcohol to evaporate from the reservoir for several days, and then dry completely in a medium oven for several hours. The heat will not damage the fill."
 
Thank you so much. I’ll refresh my canisters tomorrow! They work ok, but look a little waxy on the surface And I suspect that this treatment may improve them.
 
These seem to be sold under the Dometic brand these days.

I bought my Spirituskocher (Orgio replica) from Compass 24 back in November. I'd read the warnings on here about supply difficulties and contacted via email before placing the order to check that they actually had them there in stock. I received a reply within minutes saying that they had them available. I followed this up with a German (first language) friend call them directly to ask if they indeed really, really had them and asking them to confirm the delivery to UK. He was told that they did physically have them in stock, though he was warned that delivery to the UK was now very difficult since January 2021 and was advised against me ordering for UK delivery.

Given that I'm not in a hurry for the cooker and that actually getting hold of an Origo replica is increasingly difficult, I decided to proceed with the order online via the German webstore and had it delivered to a friends address in Berlin. It arrived next day.

In this case I would say service from Compass 24 was fast and honest; but I know this has not been everyone's experience. I realise it only partially answers the above question given my choice of delivery. My boat is in Portugal so I will either send it there or bring it back with me next time I'm in Berlin and run the VAT gauntlet.
 
I bought one from Compass. Its no an Origo, but virtually identical. I suspect its a Chinese copy of the original. The instructions were in Chinglish, leading me to that conclusion.
Having seen an Origo original and now owning a copy I can say that the copy is pretty good, but quite as good. It certainly works well. I added a gimbal arrangement myself and improved the locking mechanism that allows/prevents the top opening for canister extraction for filling. It arrived in good time, and undamaged ad no taxes etc to pay.

Chinese? Has anyone searched Alibaba or Aliexpress? I looked but did not find anything similar.
