Ore entrance - buoy out of position

We understand that the Weir SHB at the entrance to the River Ore seems to be off station, to the point where you will reportedly find more depth of water if you pass it on its wrong side, i.e. leave it to port when entering the river. We will let you know when this is corrected., although we gather this probably will be sometime next week.

Is anyone going in and out of the Ore ? We were thinking of heading in on the flood later in the week but wonder if the buoys can be relied on. I'm aware there's no survey yet this year...

I did the weekend after the lockdown restriction - No issues, I was advised to stick close to the buoys, the one time I strayed it did shallow quickly! I am aware others from Shotley have made the trip this year without issue.

Came out Monday mid afternoon, surprisingly I followed the channel (low water) passing the green close to port and then pretty much following the flow out to the haven buoy. More water than the Deben. The weir looked to be in its correct location, well a similar position to last year.

BTW There was some clown kite surfing back and forth across the entrance. Didn't pause at all and going like the clappers. His kite was right over my mast at one stage, if he had got tangled I wouldn't have been pleased........and neither would he!

Sad sight. But I suppose nothing lasts forever.

Would be nice to have a Fred Dibnah event with the whole lot coming down
in one go.

cool thanks - doesn't look from the photo on the chartlet that there's room between the Weir buoy and the shore... but I guess that's where the water is

Ref chartlet pic. maybe the shingle in shore of the weir has scoured away and made more room or the buoy has moved but it wasn't that tight . Seemed about the same as last year.

As an aside on a spring low there is often mud visible on the westerly edge. The shingle is just piled up on top and rolls around depending on the weather. Big slabs of concrete from the military road way show them selves sometimes too.

If of any use, this was my track a couple weeks ago. Plenty of water and plenty of space around the Weir buoy or there was.

I would agree with this. We went to the Ore this weekend. On the way in, we were 20 mins after high water (2.9m). we took the 'proper' route w.r.t. Weir SHB shortly later found ourselves in 2m ( we draw 1.5m). On the return today we were bang on high water (3m) but stayed around 10m further East than our inbound track. Only ducking in to take the SHB properly at the last moment. I never noticed less than 4m. I'm pretty sure the SHB is off station and if I were to return I'd definitely pass close to but on the wrong side of, Weir SHB. I'm sure the deeper channel passes east of it.

Weir Buoy repositioned yesterday (24th June) and I used the entrance for the fist time today two hours before HW 3.2m minimum.

All fine with plenty of space around the Weir Buoy on the landward side.
