Ah. OK. Now the link has been posted. 👍👍 but I don't think they'll get much data from here. Most of the contributors to this thread don't live or sail in the affected areas and even less have previously reported any interactions. Possibly I am the only person who has had any interaction with orcas on this thread and that was 3 years ago when numbers of orcas involved were only 2 or 3. Now there's many more involved in several groups across the region. Avoidance tactics and response to their presence has also moved on, i.e. get shallow as fast as you can, as opposed to lie still and let them come at you and hope they get bored. But if anyone here has had interactions I would encourage them to contribute and help what seems to be a student driven survey in Vienna.

Looks like a better than average survey with good direction and objectives.

Also international function and a bit of targetting off summer risks

Is there any way we can support it, pls ?

Thank you very much!

Taking the survey would be of great help for now!
I'll keep you posted if there's anything else you could help with!

Very early in this post there was mention of orcas wearing "dead salmon hats" in the past as a demonstration of their ability to learn behaviour. According to numerous media reports, they are at it again of the coast of Washington, USA.

I have heard rumours that you can purchase these devices that you can tow behind the boat and are meant to deter them....just rumours mind you as some places they are classed as illegal.

Are the Orcas still attacking boats or has it faded away?
Seems to have quietened down a lot, www.noforeignland.com displays the incidents, this is past month

Doubt if anyone knows why, could be they are just getting bored with the game, not so many boats out there or most people have figured out that keeping the shallower water is easy enough for most of the passages & listen to the advice to stay safe. Or all of the above and more.

Be good for all if they get bored & go make up another game. 🤞
