I am looking to buy a boat for the 1st time and have my eye on a President 51, does anyone have any experience of this brand ? If so any thoughts are welcome

President is one of those Taiwanese boat brands that tried to enter the UK/Europe markets in the '80/90s along with several others like Ocean Alexander, Hershine, Hi-Star and of course, Trader. They all made voluminous boats, mainly with aft cabins, teak interiors and usually powered by Caterpillar engines. The hulls tended to be medium V somewhere between planing and semi displacement. None of them were particularly fast so dont expect 30kts or anywhere near
Nothing else to say really other than the condition of this particular boat will depend entirely on how well its been looked after during its life span. I have heard of some of these Taiwanese built hulls being subject to osmosis so check that out and also check out the Cat engines carefully, particularly the 3208 versions if fitted. The higher powered versions of these (ie 425/435/442 hp) have been known to give problems

Space is definitely a priority over speed ..... probably why I like the Traders as well
